D. Will

Postby tstafford » Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:09 am

All,

Is it time to sound the alarm on D. Will? It's not like anyone thought he was a top-10 guy, but this is awful. I had him slated as my RB2 by committee with Blount in my main league (non-PPR), but I'm fairly sure I'd start a WR over him at this point. I realize that Netwon isn't going to throw for 400 every week, but D. Will is concerning me.

Thoughts?

Tim

Stewart has looked like the superior back running the ball and blocking...but I wouldn't panic until we see what happens when they play with a lead which is definitely going to happen soon. It may even be next week. With Foster looking iffy for another few weeks I have to plug stewart in as my RB2 but I wouldn't count on either of them as any more of a low end flex until the running game shows us something.

I own DWill and Stewart and I am concerned. I think the league will adjust to what the Panthers are doing on offense and focus more on Cam and Smith which should create more carries. That being said, i will now be starting JStew instead of Dwill until proven otherwise.

I'm stuck with both in 1 league and I'm worried, but it's almost like I have to weather the storm. Stewart is WAY too talented to give away for scraps, even if you have to wait another year to truly see him break out, he's got top 5 ability. I also think when I get frustrated on DWILL back to 2008, when he was posting some absolute clunkers well into the season then. Alot like what he's done now.

11 carries, 31, yards, 2.8 YPC
10 carries, 27 yards, 2.7 YPC
11 carries, 27 yards, 2.5 YPC

Nearly half his games that season were under 4YPC. So I'm trying to wait it out, and his value is in the tank so nobody wants him anyway. I can't get anything of value except guys trying to "sell high" on a Tim Hightower type. Then again these stats were 3 years ago, he was obviously more explosive then but it's not like he's got a bunch of NFL miles on his tires.

1 thing I like is that Cam is so talented defense are going to have to worry about him, and Steve Smith keeps them from putting 8 in the box, so I can't realistically see this happening all season. All they have needed was a QB for a long time, now they get 1 and can't run. It's hard to believe. I did offer the Charles owner Deangelo straight up, just to see. He has 2 startable RB's now and no one to play on bye weeks or injuries. Other then that, I expect things to get rolling in week 3, if not they probably never will.

Well three weeks in the book and D. Will has a whopping 2.26 YPC. At this point, I'm not sure what it would take for me to put him in my line-up. I'm sure he goes off at some point and I'm even more sure he'll be on my bench.

I have him on a one year contract in my main league and I'm seriously considering whether he's the next guy on the chopping block when I need to grab a WW guy. Somehow I doubt I'll be able to press the "drop" button however. . .

The problem right now is that Carolina can't run the football at all. Stewart hasn't been any more impressive other than week 3. Week 2 he saw a lot of passes but he was completely ineffective in the running game. Losing Fox at HC has had a major impact on their running ability and it is going to be a problem for both of them all season.

"numbers-wise" I agree J stew hasn't been more impressive, but to watch them I think he looks faster, stronger and more decisive through three games...but as you noted the running game in general is terrible.

I totally understand. I figure when Forte and Blount are both on the same bye I'll just start CJ Spiller and Gaffney while benching D. Will. How pathetic is that?
