Belichick’s WR past
In the last 15 years, these are the WRs Belichick has drafted:
Braxton Berrios
Malcolm Mitchell
Devin Lucien
Jeremy Gallon
Aaron Dobson
Josh Boyce
Jeremy Ebert
Taylor Price
Brandon Tate
Julian Edelman
Matt Slater
Chad Jackson
P.K. Sam
That is, um, a VERY bad track record. Only Edelman stands out and he was a major project and a PED user/cheater.
On the other hand, NKeal Harry represents the highest drafted WR by Belichick ever.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
The Sony Michel pick felt odd last year too. I would like to think that if Belichick drafts a skill position in round 1, that he has use for them.
Re: Belichick’s WR past
Odds are in his favor. Bound to hit on one eventually right?

Re: Belichick’s WR past
And Edelman was a QB in college, and initially he was drafted for special-teams and wildcat gadgetry.
Still can't hate Harry in NE, though. As of this moment, he could be the #3 for targets in NE right away.

Not gonna lie. The twisted logic of this occurred to me, too. So many misses suggests a hit is overdue? lol

Re: Belichick’s WR past
Matt Slater was drafted to be a special teamer. His college stats were 986 kickoff return yards, 20 tackles, 1 rushing att and zero catches.
Mitchell was actually looking pretty good until he got hurt.
Berrios Lucien Gallon Ebert Sam were all 6th or 7th rounders. You don't expect those guys to make rosters. And the jury is still out on Berrios.

Chad Jackson is the only actual investment swing and miss on that list. The rest are ST players/dart throws.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
Jackson and dobson are the two the jump out as misses. And I don't really view Edelman or Slater as hits.
I do think that Harry is different. He had a great combine Imo. The real question is will he be able to grasp the pats offense quickly which even vet receivers have a problem with.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
He's the 1.01 in ppr to me. Immediate red zone production this year with no Gronk. Not close.
Re: Belichick’s WR past
Yea Dobson and Jackson were both 2nd rounders (no 1st rounders btw)Flgatorguy87 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 4:15 amabloom wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 3:56 am Jackson and dobson are the two the jump out as misses. And I don't really view Edelman or Slater as hits.

If we look further back (still Bellichick era)
Dion Branch was also selected in the 2nd. While not a prolific player I'd think him as a hit.
The rest were primarily 4th and later, with a couple 3rd (1 or 2). And like i said the two biggest hits were probably Slater and Edelman, Slater who was specifically drafted as a special teamer and Edelman who was a low risk gamble to convert a QB to a WR.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
I don't understand why people like the Patriots as a landing spot so much.
As for "getting the red zone targets that Gronk gets"..
What, all 3 touchdowns that Gronk had last year?
Sure, draft capital is a factor; but I don't think there is a big difference between pick 32 and say, picks 33-45 (where I expect multiple receivers to go). BB has also shown a lack of ability to develop young receivers.
This is not the same pass-heavy Patriots team they once were. Given, I already was not a Harry fan - but I'm not sure this landing spot is as good as some are speculating..
Football intelligence is going to be a major thing here; which your underwear olympics do not measure.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
I think the optimism is warranted. He's got the best QB of all time who just lost his primary target this offseason throwing him the ball. I'm not paying his price, but I think there's definitely reason for potential excitement.Phaded wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 5:20 am I don't understand why people like the Patriots as a landing spot so much.

Re: Belichick’s WR past
The problem is - Harry's skillset is best suited to be a slot receiver in the NFL.
That is clearly Julian Edelman's role - and Edelman is a guy who already has the trust of Brady.
(who is actually the primary target, not Gronk)
...who will be 42 when the season starts. Brady is going to fall off a cliff soon, whether you want to believe it or not.
