It's been a while but If I remember correctly he was trying to make a statement that he believes he can get DJ the ball 30 times per game or something along those lines. Obvious a ridiculous claim, Arians is an amazing football coach but I suspect he doesn't coach by analytics or numbers which is fine if he succeeds which he has in the past.ninotoreS wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:18 amIt doesn't, but... Arians was brought out of retirement, and so the ownership has to think he still has one foot out that door. So by that reasoning it seems unlikely he's been given total control. I don't know, though, ofc.
Did Arians say DJ could get 30 touches in a game, or did he actually say he would get that EVERY game? I honestly don't know, and I doubt my google fu is good enough to find the quote you're referencing from presumably 3-4 years ago.Your second comment about 373 touches is a little over 100 touches LESS than 30 touches a game Arians was trying to claim DJ would get.
My friend, visible size and power is the only point I made there. Did I not express that clearly? Ofc Barber and DJ circa 2016 are completely different levels of athlete.I'm not sure if you actually watched DJ and Peyton Barber? The two couldn't be farther apart except for their size. Blah blah blah straw man drive engage
Arians hasn't failed to focus on Barber's size and perceived power every time he's gushed about him, so it just appears to be significant to Arians. In an age where more teams are embracing unconventional RB logic, Arians still seems to want the more classic mold. And how that's relevant here in regard Barber, is in regard to his present known competition for '19 fantasy relevance: 205lbs Ronald Jones.
Sounds like we agree, then!I get you can probably get Barber for a 3rd round pick and at that price it's not much of a risk but I'm just saying Barber isn't even close to DJ nor is there even a slight chance Barber is a long term solution for the Bucs at RB, Dude is a complete JAG.
Mostly. I suspect Barber might be an above-average runner if he has a mid-grade O-line. But long term solution? Unlikely. Like I pointed out in my last post, either one or both of Licht and Arians aren't very sold on Barber, or else they'd have locked him up for cheap for two or three years instead of just one.
p.s. I live in Knoxville.
Your post came off that Barber was capable of filling the role that DJ played in Arizona, or at least that's how I read it so I apologize if I misunderstood. My point was that DJ is one of the most complete backs in the NFL and was used as such under Arians, I do not think Barber is anything other than a one dimensional plodder with subpar athleticism so I find it hard to believe Arians will be okay with just Barber as the lead back despite what he continues to say. When a coach gushes about a young player its never a bad thing but when I hear them gushes about a back like Barber it makes me feel like they are just trying to not get down on their roster in public. He's the epitome of replaceable and because they didn't go out and sign someone like Tevin Coleman for pennies on the dollar like SF did it makes me believe they are targeting a back in the draft.
But like I said a 3rd isn't much to lose regardless so if that's your buy low definitely go for it. I'd prefer to take my chances on other backs in that category.
