Could Eli Rogers be a sleeper?

Postby DynastyDabbler » Fri Mar 22, 2019 5:16 am

Anyone out there see Rogers as a deep sleeper? I briefly had Rogers rostered in 2016. I remember him playing tough and making good catches. JuJu was brought in in '17 and we haven't seen much of ER since. Do you think he'll challenge or overtake Moncrief and Washington for playing time? I like to think it's possible. I'm not rushing to add him to my roster but I'd say he's available in pretty much all leagues. If you have a "dart throw" spot available is ER worthy of it?

He's on my "Scout Team" for sure. 14 targets over the last 3 games of 2018...could be an interesting player. As a Washington owner I would definitely consider drafting him around Round 4 ish in my league. I have no idea how targets will shake out after JuJu and this is a good post to remind everyone to keep an open mind about the pecking order.

I used to be optimistic about Rogers, but it didn't pan out.

He's strictly slot only, and JJSS will continue living in the slot in 3-wide sets, as Moncrief and Washington are much better suited on the boundary. This means Rogers at best would be the offense's WR4 if everyone's healthy.

I think it is a possibility, but a remote one at best. Being a UDFA vs guys who had high draft capital or salary expenditure put into them obviously means he has obstacles ahead of him. So Washington & Moncrief will get & continue to get plenty of chances to succeed, while Rogers will not get as many chances to show he deserves . On the bright side, signing a second contract with the Steelers suggest that they like & trust him enough as depth, and he'll at least have a foot in the door should one of them let the opportunity pass them by. In a deeper roster league it never hurts to have a guy like this on your roster (good offence, solid knowledge of said offence) so long as you're willing to cut him if nothing comes of it.

I mean, I guess he’s a sleeper to the extent that one could concoct an extremely far-fetched path to significant playing time for literally ANY player on an NFL roster. It’s certainly not a bet I’d be willing to make though. If he’s rostered in your league, it’s more likely a sign that your rosters are way too big than of him having a realistic chance at relevance. Even if we restrict the conversation to only Steelers long-shot WRs, I’d still rather roll the dice with Switzer.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties
