Your best waiver move

Postby Pullo Vision » Fri Feb 22, 2019 1:15 am

Read an article about the importance of the waiver wire to building your team. At one point, they polled their leaguemates to get their best waiver pickups they've ever done.

Got me wondering what the best waiver moves for people here would be. Off the top of my head, for the last few years, I'd say Kittle and Dion Lewis. Kittle's top 3 at his position but Lewis was a great start at the end of 2017 that I ended up pairing with a 2nd to flip for Cooper and a 1st.

Who were your best waiver moves, whether for their production or eventual trade value?
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K
1 DT, 2 DE, 2 LB, 1 CB, 1 S, 1 flex

League #2- 12 team PPR, 1Q, 1R, 2W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1 W/R/T, 1 Def

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

Has to be picking up Juju before his breakout rookie year. Think he got dropped around byes as Bryant was the 2 at the time. Gotta be patient

Adam Thielen in multiple leagues. In one league I actually picked him up. dropped him and picked him up again 3 weeks later. I have since traded him in one league for kenny golladay ian thomas and a 2020 1st.
I have too many teams to list...

My best moves were picking up Tyreek and Kittle. No one really knew of Tyreek at the time and Kittle was still a rookie. Anyways, that also leads me to my worst waivers moves....dropping both Tyreek and Kittle a week or so after picking them up.  :wall: :wall:

My best over the years: Julius Thomas, Antonio Brown, Tyrod Taylor, Dion Lewis, Julian Edelman, Danny Woodhead, and CJ Anderson.

Such a good feeling to land a regular starter from free agency. Even better to cash out on them before they fade away.

I love playing the waiver wire. Robert Woods, Kittle, Matt Breida ( flipped him and a 2nd for Golladay). I tend to be overactive on the waiver wire which has hurt me at times. I've picked up guys like Daesean Hamilton, Gus Edwards, Chris Herndon, anticipating a "breakout game" and dropped them because I was impatient.

Picked up Antonio Brown late in his rookie season and Tyreek Hill early in his rookie season. Picked up Stevie Johnson in the offseason before his 3 straight 1,000 yard seasons. Charles Clay and Cameron Brate were also wire pickups that were useful for a couple of seasons each.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Justin Shorter
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

This past season a couple of hours before kickoff of Week 1, I found Phillip Lindsay just sitting there on the WW of a 16 team league.

There's a league where owners drop 1st round rookie picks midway into their rookie year?

It's a shallow league. Not sure what he was doing, but the guy is a good owner.

Edit: I don't think he was a 1st rounder iirc... There were many RB to he had in that draft and all of Davis/Williams/Ross we're ranked ahead. Your point is still valid

Most recently, the best ones I've had in team 1 in sig is snagging Kittle, Tyreek, and not super sexy, but Chris Thompson was a decent flex for a while.

In the last 3 years I have picked up Eric Ebron 3 times and traded him 3 times (twice to the same owner). The first time for an early 2nd (ended up being Njoku), the second time for Drew Brees and a 3rd, and then this year I paired him with Rivers to get a 1st this year (ended up 1.03) which i flipped for Golladay.
