How was the rookie draft order determined in the first place?

Startup was randomized.
Rookie was decided on that it would be inverse of the startup draft

I guess the miscommunication came about when deciding whether rookie draft would be snake or linear for the first year

(All future years will obviously be linear based on standings)

If the picks where not included and chosen in the main draft, the order should be snake NOT linear. No questions asked. Can you imagine last year someone taking Kamara and Adams at the 1/2 turn last year and the automatically getting Barkley. Then on top of that massive advantage you also have the 2.01/3.01 etc.

This seems like the commish got the 10 slot and then changed so he could benefit.

Exactly. And for that reason I've learned my lesson - next year if I join any drafts, it will only be those that rookie picks are draftable assets or drafts that take place after the NFL draft.
This year it works out because there is no definitive 1.01, (there is no Saquon).

But yes I completely agree. It should be snake because people didn't choose their startup draft order, it was random & not based on team performance.

Those who missed out on the elite studs are compensated with a higher rookie picks that have a better chance at being studs.
Those who missed out on rookie studs get a few more chances at the next tier of rookies/dart throws
Those in the middle probably have the most balanced teams anyway

He will have the 1.01 in rookie drafts. Linear instead of snake would clearly benefit him in rounds beyond the 1st lol

No, just was trying to figure out which of the comments from that thread was theirs. This is the important part- "yeah, are you ok with snake drafting the start up first. Then the inverse of that order will be the rookie draft for this year." I could imagine someone thinking "inverse of that order" means take round one start up order, reverse it, and keep that new order for all the rounds of the rookie draft.

The bigger issue is so much is left un-said, whether because it was assumed or noone thought of it.

This is a good point. It's entirely possible that there is nothing sketchy going on; just a miscommunication based on poor verbiage.

In which case I'm as much at fault as anyone else for not making sure it was 100% clear before continuing
But I just want to make sure the commish cleans it up so no one else gets screwed in the future

EDIT: I see now where the issue is. I misread a couple of the comments.

I'd never heard of any rookke draft being snake, but in this case, it actually made sense.

a few slot move in the 2nd shouldnt either. maybe ask the trade partner to also give you their 3rd for your 4th to even it up a lil idk just an idea if you both agree the value of the deal changed a little and wanna try to square it up.

Not really a bad deal either way IMO but if you feel duped then ask for the trade to be reversed or a refund. If the rules were unclear that is.

Bell is a way better player. He is a RB1 and WR2 all rolled up into one position.

Commish is inexperienced and my guess is he will be playing with the rules throughout.

It's $10 so not a big deal but I'd say this will be a confusing and frustrating league to be involved with.

I’d be worried about any league regardless of whether it was dirt cheap or free where the basic structure and rules of the league have any ambiguity. Things like this should absolutely be clear to all from the outset. If it isn’t a friends league, I’d be hesitant to even want to endure other more challenging issues that often follow.
