Senior Bowl Week Takeaways

Postby tresskid84 » Tue Jan 22, 2019 11:42 am

Creating this for a place to talk about the Senior Bowl, everyone's favorite NFL scrimmage of graduate footballers.

Measurements have been published, and there are some interesting numbers out there (none of them are really surprising, if you have watched them, but still interesting, to me anyway, lol):

WR
- Hunter Renfrow has some of the shortest arms and smallest hands I can remember from a wr draft prospect if the numbers published (29 inch and 7.75) are accurate. He is also very light (only 175 lbs).

- Deebo is officially built like a RB (again, which anyone who watched him for two seconds could tell you), has longer arms for his height, and his hands are huge

- Isabella is actually taller than I expected, somehow, lol. Him actually being 5'9" is a big win to me, as I was afraid he was actually shorter. Does have short arms and small hands as well.

- Meyers weigh-in confirmed what I was afraid of after watching his tape, dude is a stick. Only 196 lbs at 6'2", he will be at risk of getting pushed around a lot in the NFL.

- Travis Fulgham and Jalen Hurd had the most impressive measurables. I honestly haven't watched any of Fulgham's tape yet or any ODU games during the season (I watched more Delaware games than ODU, lol).

RB
- Higdon at 5'9, 203 lbs seemed about right. BMI number is strong, which was expected

- Dexter Williams measured well, nothing alarming or unexpected

- both Hills and Pollard measured slightly light for the height, with Hills also having small hands.

TE
- Nothing particular stood out except for Parham being 6'8" with 36 inch arms. Needs to add weight and I am curious about how athletic he truly is. BMI more resembles a big WR than TE.

QB
- Trace measuring at 6'0 slightly surprised me. Good news for him, though still obviously not a prototype in size

- Lock's hand size is going to be a slight thing. They measured smaller than Trace's

- Nothing else really stood out to me that wasn't expected.

I know last year a couple of people went and attended part of the Senior Bowl - and I think Coogan went in 2017 or 2016 - is anyone (dlf member that is) there this year?

I thought arm strength was one of his weak points? Interesting.

As a Knoxville native, it feels weird to have to evaluate Jalen Hurd as a WR now.

For those that don't know, he was the University of Tennessee's star tailback before having diva issues and bluffing the program to give in to his usage demands. The bluff faceplanted, and Hurd basically had to transfer. Because there was this guy named Alvin Kamara who was his backup (also John Kelly).

I will say that, athletically, he's a much more interesting WR (or TE) prospect than RB prospect. He's got a lot to learn about the position, though.

Did see he threw the fastest ball on Tuesday while Jackson had the fastest rotation. I watched a bunch of WVU this year, and his arm strength was never a worry from my observation.

This kid Wes Hills from Slippery Rock looks really good in the practices. In the 7 on 7s, they knew it would be a run everytime and he still broke through the majority of the time.
