Just took over an orphan - trade Gurley?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Just took over an orphan - trade Gurley?

Postby Mephistopheles » Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:56 pm

Hello, all, I just took over an orphan team in a 12 team PPR league. It's a decent team, but the WR are a Courtney Love-style hot mess.

Here is the team:

Luck, Mayfield, Brady, Brissett
Gurley, Chubb, J. Howard, T. Coleman, Breida, R. Smith, Dayes, C. Warren, Webb
Godwin, J. Ross, Allison, Bourne, Conley, J Gordon, C. Hogan, Inman, Treadwell, K. White, R. James
Brate, Herndon, Walker, Swoope
NYJ, TEN

As you can see, the WR are a clownshow on this team.

Had the team for about 24 hours, have sent out several trade offers, all responses on J. Howard have come back "zero interest in Howard". Not sure why, but whatever.

Couple offers for Chubb...well well below what he's worth, guys are trying to pay RB4 prices for him...pass.

Some discussion on Coleman, but getting pushback on getting anything of note for him.

So...my question is, should I consider moving gurley, and if so, what kind of package should I be looking for?
PSA - Haggling is NOT the same as negotiating.

I would just wait & see how the draft & free agency plays out. We got a long time until week 1 kicks off, make it known to the league that you're honored to take over a team that features such a good 1-2 punch at RB. Let them come to you with solid offers.

I'm not saying I would accept this, but I would start listening if someone offered me something like Dalvin Cook & Golladay for Gurley. That owner might get a counter-offer from me

That team, yes I think you should consider moving Gurley to fix your WRs. It's a long offseason tho and wait, wait, wait for that overpay to come in

For reference, I just bought Hopkins in one league for Dalvin Cook, Landry, Boyd, and Baker Mayfield. You should get more than that for Gurley, but you want that type of get 4 startable assets gurl to speed along that rebuild

I wouldn't mess with the strength of this team which is that one two punch at RB. Im sure something will come along and you can get WRs that are more than serviceable and pretty cheap. Wrs are far easier to acquire than RBs in my experience. Keep Gurley and chubb and trade A qb along with some picks to get Vet Wrs (Tate, Baldwin come to mind and should be cheap but produce) or young guys who haven't quite broken out yet but you feel good about (Godwin is this guy to many people) Lots of people really like godwin so if you can get a WR to pair with him you should be good with those RBs.

Packaging Mayfield with Coleman or Howard and pick should get someone interested.

I stick with my original advice but if you do want to trade gurley you should go to the Kelce, Ertz or Kittle owner and see about that. Your Tes need some help as well and I bet you can get One of those guys and more for Gurley. I standby my advice but if you are itching to trade him than def look into that

I'd start with Coleman, Breida and potentially 2 of Luck, Mayfield and Brady and see where that gets you first.

I wouldn't trade Gurley. League winning RB's are hard to come across and the teams that have them won't trade them. Meanwhile, WR is the deepest position in fantasy and you can find cheap plug-and-play guys to help you win.

Worst case, let owners know Gurley is available but only sell if you get a ransom.

You have a lot of issues on that team.

By the time you are competitive, Gurley will be entering the tail end of his elite fantasy career if not already there.

Trade him - but do not rush or "settle". You will get a good haul if you are patient.

Gurley is useless if the rest of your team is that bad.

First trade in the books:

Sent Breida, Allison
Received: Pettis, Sanu, 2019 3rd (think will be about 3.04)

I have 1 1st round pick, commish hasn't posted the order yet, but I think it is about 1.05

1QB league, QRRWWWFFTD

Updated team look:
Luck, Mayfield, Brady, Brissett
Gurley, Chubb, J. Howard, T. Coleman, R. Smith, Dayes, C. Warren, Webb
Godwin, Pettis J. Ross, Bourne, Conley, J Gordon, C. Hogan, Inman, Treadwell, K. White, R. James
Brate, Herndon, Walker, Swoope
NYJ, TEN
1.05, 2.5, 3.5,3.6,4.5

I like it. These are the types of moves you make that fit a rebuild and could give you a chance to win too. You're not going to get star WR's, but you can find undervalued ones and breakout candidates. You have two solid ones in Godwin and Pettis.
