Dwayne Washington, RB, NO

Postby slaughterrt » Tue Jan 08, 2019 6:17 pm

Without looking into his contract situation...does anyone else think he is worth a stash? 24 year old RB without a ton of mileage. Playing in a New Orleans high powered offense. Mark Ingram possibly on the way out. He could potentially play the 1B to Kamara’s 1A? He played well in week 17.

This is assuming Ingram leaves.
Also assuming NO doesn’t draft or sign another RB.

Just looking at some waiver wire players and Washington kinda piqued my interest. Maybe worth a stash or maybe better off on WW.

Thoughts?

Worth a stash if you have the roster space. Long odds but what the hell.

Worse flyers out there ! I was quite fond of his tape/workout profile coming out of UW what puzzled me was the lack of production . In detroit he didn't do a helluva lot with his chances there so I closed the file . Now in new orleans especially if he is kept and ingram leaves well then what is not to like . Sean Payton makes everyone in that offense seem to be better than they really are qb wr te & rb are all better than they would be virtually anywhere else.

Agreed. I held him up until the championship to make roster moves due to injuries. Waivers lock after the games that week, so hopefully i can snag him again before the hype builds.

Talking flyers - how do you value him compared to Brian Hill and Zach Zenner? Hill has possible opportunity in Atlanta, and Zenner do well with his looks this year

I think all are fine end of bench flyer types low% of being a sustained asset but you could do worse . All are blocked by a solid back(s) !

He's very fast in a straight-line, and together with his weight/height profile in theory that makes him a bit scary for DBs to handle in the open-field. Of course, first he needs to actually get to the second-level for that matter.

Last I studied him (a few years ago), the above was about the only good thing about Washington. He's not a confident pass-catcher (a shame because he's got good size for it), he struggles with vision and instincts at the LoS, his pad-level is bad and his hips are tight.

New Orleans is always an intriguing situation for an RB, though.

He's worth stashing against the possibility Ingram walks. Odds are NO will take something at RB early Day 3, though.

I put him on my watch list when he joined New Orleans. Haven't picked him up anywhere. He's the kind I'd sell on hype rather than gamble he dies something meaningful.

The Saints basically have no draft picks this year. I don't know that they can afford to spend a pick on an RB.
Team 1:
16 team startup
1 qb 2 rb 2 wr 1 te 1 flex 1 dst 1k
Qb: Hurts, Pickett
Rb: Taylor, Pollard, Henry, Herbert, K. Ingram, Moss, Kelley
Wr: AJ Brown, Tyreek, Pickens, Bateman, Robinson
TE: Kelce, J. Woods, L. Thomas
D: MIA, SEA, MIN
K: Koo
2024 1.02 & 2.15

Finished
2019: 1st
2020: 1st
2021: 4th
2022: 2nd
2023: 2nd

I grabbed him and will hold him until after FA and the draft. Prob end up dropping him unless the perfect storm hits.

Unless there were other pertinent trades after Eli Apple I'm not aware of, the Saints have six draft picks next year. Five on Day 3. If Ingram goes, they'll have as much need at RB as any other position, and historically RB is a position with some of the best value on Day 3.

He didn't do a helluva lot with his chances because every time the opportunity arose, he got himself injured somehow. Mostly sprained ankles if I recall correctly.

Late round pick guys have to be available when the opportunity arises or they are rapidly replaced. He unfortunately got injured, right at the beginning of (from my recollection) two nice opportunity windows.

I think he's got enough talent...but so do a lot of other guys. He doesn't have much invested into him, and that matters.
He's a good gamble at the end of a roster, because he could offer some unexpected (but not entirely unforeseen) value like a Josh Adams.

I will be keeping my eye on him. Didn't have the chance to pick him up. I always try to get pieces in good offenses. If Ingram leaves, he could be the guy they use to replace him. NO likes to get guys that understand Peyton's system. What they may lack in physical talent, it is made up for by understanding the system and excelling in it. Kinda how it didn't matter who plays at RB in SF, I see NO the same.

NO kept him over pre-season darling Boston Scott so they must like something about him. Maybe it was just better special teams play Or added size .

Holding as stated above until after draft & FA are concluded. Then we will see if he is worth a roster spot
