The 49ers had nearly 170 less passing attempts last season than the Steelers! Yes, AB would become the defacto WR1 on the team, but is that really a glamorous spot to be in for a team that doesn't have much chemistry between it's positional players and already has an elite TE who projects for another 130+ targets next season? Last year they already skewed pass heavy due to game script (423 run attempts vs 532 pass attempts) 56% pass.

Jimmy Grapes and McKinnon both coming back from injury with 2-3 young WRs that all had between 40-50 targets last season. Only WR they are losing this offseason is Pierre Garcon which frees up like 20 targets.

I don't see elite numbers for AB in a 9ers uniform. Hope he can prove me wrong though if he does go there.
I don't think that ppl think Brown going to the 49ers is a good thing - as in it's better than the steelers, they think it's a good thing - as in it's the best (realistic) option available.

SF traditionally has thrown quite a bit less than Pitt, but that could be due to personal issues. Put AB on the field and pass attempts could potentially go up.

Historically, when Shanahan has had a true number 1WR he has fed them the ball.

2009: Houston, Andre Johnson, 170 targets
2009: Houston, Andre Johnson, 171 targets
2010: Washington, Santana Moss, 145 targets
2013: Washington, Pierre Garcon, 181 targets
2015: Atlanta, Julio Jones, 203 targets
2016: Atlanta, Julio Jones, 147 target (16 game pace)

To me, it looks like he tries to make the best of the personal he has on the roster. If he doesn't have the receiving talent on his roster, he falls back on his solid run game system, but when he has receiving talent he tends to use them. Last yr it was Kittle, this yr it could be Brown.

Also, I think the lack of established chemistry with Jimmy G is a good thing for Brown, not a bad thing. It's much harder to come into a situation that has already gelled, and become a big part of the offense. At that point Jimmy G would already have his fav targets/reads established. This way Brown would have a chance to be that guy from the get go.

RE: the Indy landing spot...I read the attached article below and it sounds like Ballard isn't willing to disrupt the dressing room by adding big personalities. Doesn't sound promising for either Bell or Brown. Give it a read if your curious.

Gambling site releases odds of where he lands.

Packers being #2 is interesting to say the least; one of the few spots that could be considered an improvement.

Guess he is meeting with Steelers ownership today. He will remain a steeler. Guarantee it.

The news was he was refusing to meet with Rooney. That was the last thing I saw anyway.

Yeah, there was the "no, he won't" then "yeah, he will."

How many NFL trades involve both players and picks though?
I know it is common in other sports, but I didn't think it was common in the NFL..

It is actually pretty common to include a player to even out a trade.

Is it though?

In 2017, there were 42 trades - 4 of them involved a player being traded for draft pick(s) and player(s).
In 2018, there were 35 trades - none of them involved a player being traded for draft pick(s) and player(s).

I wouldn't go placing any money on that +450 line, as attractive as it may seem on the surface.

Rodney Harrison brought up Seattle as an AB landing spot. I understand this is one of the last guys we should listen to about this kind of stuff but it sure is an intriguing spot. Wilson had Baldwin putting up WR1 numbers, he would surpass all of that with AB. Would be fantastic for seattle. Also Carrol is used to Divas and is one of the few with the cache to control AB.

I certainly don't think it's the most likely of the three, but think it's more common than involving just players.

Depending on what they do in free agency, SF could add a QB, LB or RB to a pick(s) to entice Pittsburgh and beat rival offers.

Hopefully it is resolved before the NFL Draft - obviously the longer it takes the more the uncertainty and the more of a delay for building chemistry/fitting into the playbook.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

Adam Schefter

@AdamSchefter
Antonio Brown met today with Art Rooney, per source. Then Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus joined the meeting, as did Steelers’ GM Kevin Colbert and exec Omar Kahn. Meeting was cordial and “everyone agreed the trade will be for the best,” per source.
