Unexpected roster heroes

Postby slaughterrt » Sun Dec 23, 2018 8:04 am

Whether you are in the championship game or not, who are some of your unexpected starters that helped you get where you are? Maybe rookies you drafted with no expectations this year, or that waiver guy you picked up in season...or someone you have been stashing for a while.

16 team superflex...I am in the championship game this weekend and I have been starting Nick Mullens as my QB1 since week 12. With Wentz being hurt and Bortles being benched, I was forced to roll with waiver hero Nick Mullens (who I grabbed off WW after week 9). He has basically saved my season.

Hoping to have some of that waiver magic roll over into my superflex spot this week with Heinicke starting for me as my 2nd QB. Been rolling with Drake, D Parker, and Smallwood at my superflex spot until they shut down Cam.

-Mahomes. Never thought he’d have an all time great fantasy season this year.
-Ebron. Didn’t expect much at my TE position this year with HH on Ir.
-Lindsay. Awesome flex play all season.

Yes and yes. In one league I drafted Royce Freeman at 1.04 (ugh) and grabbed Lindsay off waivers in early September. Been my RB2 all year. Got me to the semis.

Team 1 is looking at a trophy this week...
Mahomes: I thought he was going to be my QB2 option alongside Flacco. Saw what this kid could do the first 2 weeks and traded Flacco and went with Baker as my #3

Jaylen Samuels: picked him up after the Connor injury. has provided me much needed RB points. I mean just look at the rest of my guys lol

Tyreek: traded for him mid season. I was down by a ton the week KC played LAR on MNF. needless to say Maho es and Tyreek brought me back with a much needed win

Honorable mention to Corey Davis who helped me a few weeks when I needed a flex. Hope he can put it together with that offense next season

Sold my Fournette for Brandin Cooks and Amari Cooper. Cooper got traded and his two big games have practically carried me to the Championship this year
I may or may not be related to Bryan Edwards

Ertz. He really stepped it up a notch this year.

Lindsay, Carson, and Ebron. I didn't expect any of them to be worth much, let alone quality starters at their positions for the majority of the season.

And definitely agree with you guys about Mahomes. I did a 12 team superflex startup last offseason and drafted Garoppollo and Luck as my starters and Mahomes as my 3rd. Needless to say he was my QB1 very early in the season. And my QB of the future.

A couple names not mentioned....
James white, cohen, & yeldon those that use the 0rb strategy were able to get meaninful production.

Wrs i was happy with boyd, lockett, Juju (went mid 2nd or farther back in most of my rookie drafts), manny sanders, woods, edelman has been a strong play since returning.

Cook was a solid addition at te.

Jared Cook in my 2TE league. Far beyond all expectations, key part of getting to the championship.

Mahomes and... the scrap heap - in Aug/Sep - that was my RB corps.

Started Mahomes on a hunch Week 1 - glued to my starting lineup since! Thought he'd be good, but this? What a fantasy monster!

And between Breida, Lindsay (waivers), Jones and Carson and a spot start or two of Ekeler, they turned my early-season weakness into a strength by season's end.

Championship included!

Honorable mention: Golladay and Davis.
35 Team Dyn PPR, 3 x Copy SF start 2TE Super Prem (TE 2 PPR, 8pt TD), 6 pt/non-TE TD, 1pt/20 yds pass (300 +3pt), 1pt/10 yds rush/rec (100 +3pt)

Start 12: 1QB 1SFLX 2RB 4WR 2TE 2FLX | 30 Active Roster, unlim Taxi, 3 IR/Out (+) | est. '21 | playoffs '21, '22

QB - J Allen, T Lawrence ...
RB - A Ekeler, S Barkley, J Cook, I Pacheco ...
WR - AJ Brown, C Ridley, G Pickens, C Sutton ...
TE - D Njoku, D Knox ...

Unexpected heroes to me today have been Robbie Anderson and Eli McGuire. Could have also been Herndon in another league, but I chose to bench him for Burton. Oops.

So I guess all Jets players?
