Ian Thomas: Start the Hype?

Postby FantasyFreak » Sun Dec 09, 2018 11:29 pm

Has been good since Olsen went down. What are we thinking? I have him in a few leagues. Seems Funchess will move on, so is he Cam's safety blanket moving on? He also has some athleticism to make big plays. At 22, his last 2 games at TE are nothing to shake a stick at.

He's definitely more valuable with a "hurt" Cam. His shoulder limitations has him throwing underneath to Ian more than he normally would

Either way I do like him

No. Because I'm biased. Early in the season when Olsen went down the first time, I spent a bug chunk of my FAAB on Thomas and he was the invisible man. Then I had to drop him. Now someone else spent big on him and hes showing something. So thus, I hate him.

I picked him up 2 weeks ago and I might have to start him this week over Burton/Reed. Wish me luck

I'm starting him over Burton next week and not even thinking twice of it. I'm not sure if it is because I like Thomas or hate Burton lol.

I got him for free last week, thinking I might tag him as a keeper. Worst case he is a serviceable bye week guy, best case a trade able piece at some point. I haven't done any research on measurables however, so keep that in mind. Just going off his production.

CBS alludes to him doing as Brate did vs the Saints. I'm starting him because my only other options are Mark Andrews and Matt LaCosse. Also, Brate vs the Ravens could be tough

Insane target volume because Newton can't throw deep right now. I'd bet he has some nice PPR games ROS, but I'd sell quickly for a mid 2nd or better. This seems akin to when Evan Engram got peppered with targets when Odell Beckham was out.

I'm holding him I think. It's too easy to see Olsen retiring this year, hurt that foot twice, putting him out for the season on multiple occasions now, he'll be 34 and he's got the broadcast job lined up already. Thomas is the future and soon. They spent an early 4th on him, which was ahead of George Kittle, not that that guarantees anything, but the Panthers obviously liked him more than they did Kittle. Measurables are there. He's half a step behind Kittle in speed but he's stronger it seems. Only had one real year of production in college so he's still polishing and I think he could be in for a big step forward next season.
QBs: Dak Prescott, Teddy Bridgewater, Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston, Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton

Am I crazy to want to start him over Uzomah this weekend?

Rationale is that Uzomah, while getting a decent amount of targets, hasn't really done anything with them all season. Thomas has at least put together a couple of good games this year.

Olsen was already doing broadcasting work in the off-season. He will be doing that once he retires. Could see him packing it in after this season, and another injury. He's a smart guy, and may choose to walk away from the game rather than limp away.

Kittle was drafted last year. Thomas was drafted this year. Their draft position means nothing relative to whether the Panthers liked one more than the other.
