2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
1 – 49ers: Nick Bosa, EDGE
Another draft, another defensive lineman taken by the Niners – but in this case, it’d be a no-brainer. Bosa is considered to be head & shoulders above every other prospect, so unless they traded down (which is a huge possibility), Bosa will be the #1 overall pick.
2 – Raiders: Quinnen Williams, DL
Similar to the previous pick, this is much less about need and much more about BPA. Oakland/Vegas would surely seek a trade down here, unless they decide to cut ties with Carr and snag a QB.
3 – Jets: Jonah Williams, OT
Protect your investment. BPA and Team Need converge nicely here.
4 – Cardinals: DK Metcalf, WR
The polar opposite of last year’s WR type, slot-man Christian Kirk, here we give Rosen a WR with one of the highest *potential* ceilings since the elite wideout prospects of 2011. Health, route-running, and consistency are all question marks with Metcalf, but his explosion, speed, size, and alpha traits are not in doubt.
5 – Giants: Justin Herbert, QB
No blurb needed here, other than to say: IF Herbert declares, there’s no way he gets taken this late. Either a team trades up, or the Raiders take him at 2. But I don’t predict trades here.
6 – Jags: Dwayne Haskins, QB
Allegedly a much lesser prospect than Herbert, but there seems to be a big dip from Haskins down to the next QB, and the Jags NEED to replace Bortles/Kessler.
7 – Bills: Ed Oliver, DL
It may surprise you to see Oliver this late in the mock, but he is severely “undersized” for an interior lineman. That and the fact that he played against inferior competition at Houston, will surely scare some teams away.
8 – Lions: Josh Allen, EDGE
I see a Leonard Floyd-level rise in draft stock happening with Allen. His length, 2018 production, and (presumably) fantastic combine numbers will cause teams to fall in love.
9 – Falcons: Clelin Ferrell, EDGE
The team with very few “needs” could always use an extra pass rusher. Who knows, maybe Beasley will get phased out of the starting rotation entirely?
10 – Packers: Raekwon Davis, DL
Deforest Buckner 2.0?
11 – Browns: Collin Johnson, WR
I know, crazy high, right? Well, I have fallen in love. I was a big time doubter of Johnson’s, until I actually decided to give his tape the time of day. He seems like he’s got it all. I expect him to rock the combine, and to be picked somewhere on day 1.
12 – Bucs: Greedy Williams, CB
Again, BPA mixed with team need.
13 – Bengals: Devin White, LB
White is a monster. Good size, great sideline-to-sideline coverage, and a Rueben Foster-level tackler. Burfict, meet your replacement.
14 – Dolphins: Jachai Polite, EDGE
Miami needs an edge rush BAD, and Charles Harris is looking like he may have been a busted pick.
15 – Colts: Byron Murphy, CB
I will be thrilled, THRILLED, if we can land Murphy here. The Huskies have simply churned out DBs recently (Budda Baker, Kevin King, Sidney Jones, etc), and Murphy could be the best prospect of them all.
16 – Panthers: Dalton Risner, G
Probably about where he should go, and definitely a need for Carolina.
17 – Eagles: Marquise Brown, WR
Philly has run re-treads like Torrey Smith and Mike Wallace out there as deep threats. How about they just draft one? Alshon is as heavy-footed as always, and the rest of their corps are slot types.
18 – Redskins: Will Grier, QB
Poor Alex Smith. I feel bad for the dude. But, the show must go on. Colt McCoy can do his best Josh McCown impression while Grier sits for a year.
19 – Titans: Yodny Cajuste, OT
As crappy as this team has been for most of the year, they actually don’t have a ton of obvious needs. When in doubt, draft trench-players!
20 – Broncos: AJ Brown, WR
Definitely not at all a 1-for-1 replacement for the explosive and slippery Sanders, but Brown can excel inside while Sutton plays the X role.
21 – Vikings: Tyler Biadasz, G/C
It feels like mocking an O-Lineman to Minnesota is always a safe play.
22 – Ravens: Deionte Thompson, S
Bama player? Check. Elite ceiling? Check. Team need? Check.
23 – Raiders: Mack Wilson, LB
The gross multi-headed monstrosity at MLB for the Raiders can be quickly vanquished by one of Saban’s Knights: meet Mack Wilson, one of most athletic off-ball LBs Alabama has produced. He’s far from the hulking brutes such as Hightower, Ragland, etc. Wilson would team up immediately with Whitehead to help the Raiders fix their hapless run defense.
24 – Steelers: Julian Love, CB
Seems like the Steelers always need secondary help. I don’t LOVE this selection, but it’s a logical one.
25 – Seahawks: David Edwards, OT
I realize they’ve taken strides as a unit, but the Seattle O-Line needs young talent.
26 – Raiders: Elijah Holyfield, RB
He’s quickly risen to the top of my RB rankings. I see some Joe Mixon in him (insert boxing joke here).
27 – Chargers: Chris Lindstrom, G
I realize they’ve attempted to strengthen their interior line with high draft picks, and have been ravaged by injuries, but the fact is – stud prospects like Forrest Lamp don’t do any good if they can’t stay off IR.
28 – Texans: Brian Burns, EDGE
Mercilus seems like he’s already fading. Even if that’s not the case, slotting in Burns at OLB would allow Houston to line up Clowney at DE full time, where he has excelled.
29 – Pats: Noah Fant, TE
It almost makes TOO much sense. The Pats need a young TE, like, ASAP.
30 – Packers: Taylor Rapp, S
Since losing Burnett and now HHCD, Green Bay has all but resorted to posting Craigslist ads for safety help. Rapp should be able to change that quickly.
31 – Chiefs: Damien Harris, RB
I promise this was NOT a wink to dynasty fantasy football, but it really would make a ton of sense. Like Hunt, Harris is not an elite “athlete” in terms of measurables, nor does he look imposing in terms of his size or freaky moves. He is, however, a very smart and polished runner who might already be as good or better in pass pro, relative to Hunt.
32 – Rams: Montez Sweat, EDGE
LA would be ecstatic to see any of Polite, Burns, or Sweat still available at the end the First. Ebukam has made some wonderful plays on national TV, but they need edge help something fierce.
Another draft, another defensive lineman taken by the Niners – but in this case, it’d be a no-brainer. Bosa is considered to be head & shoulders above every other prospect, so unless they traded down (which is a huge possibility), Bosa will be the #1 overall pick.

Re: 2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
I don't see Harris or Holyfield getting selected that high. Neither are special backs. It's possible an RB gets drafted Round 1, but I don't think there's one this year who is of that quality.
Metcalf going #4 seems like a big reach.

Awesome job, great blurbs.
I think the Hollywood Brown to Philly is a good call, they tried to trade for Robby Anderson at the deadline.
I’ve got to go familiarize myself with Collin Johnson now.....

Re: 2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
I like it. Doubt Greedy lasts that long and somebody will trade up for Grier, whether Herbert declares or not. Haskins definitely made himself some money at the end of the season, most specifically the Michigan game. Agree on the take above on Holyfield and Harris, but you never know. I had Rodney around there before getting hurt again, so a 1st rd investment on him is doubtful now.

Re: 2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
If I had to guess whether or not each individual RB would get taken in the first round, I would guess no to all of them. And I would be correct for most of the RBs. But I do think at least one if not two will go in the first, so I just made a speculative guess on which ones are most likely.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 5:28 pm I don't see Harris or Holyfield getting selected that high. I mostly agree that these guys are not special tho.
In terms of Metcalf, #4 is probably a reach but if he tests really well and clears all his medicals, I would bet he goes top 10.

Re: 2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
Ya Greg Little will almost certainly be a 1st round pick, he's a true LT. Jonah is really good and plays LT in college, but most project him to likely move inside and be an excellent Guard, very much like Brandon Scherff a couple years ago.

Yup, Little could definitely be a 1st rounder but I just don’t see him as a lock there. Seems to be a guy with all the tools but none of the polish or fundamentals.

Re: 2019 NFL Draft Mock 1.0 (First Round Only)
Nope, but I’m very skeptical on him until I see some testing numbers. I think he’s likely to run about a 4.60 flat, and if that’s the case there’s no way he goes first round.
