Deep Sleeper Alert: Anthony Firsker
Deep Sleeper Alert: Anthony Firsker
Probably nothing to see here, but thought I would put on people's radar if you are depserate for TE depth. With Delanie Walker on IR and Jonnu Smith being non-relevant I found it interesting that the Titans promoted Firsker to the 53 man roster and he got some run last week that resulted in 2 targets for 2 catches resulting in 25 yards (compared to Jonnu's 1 target for 1 catch and 12 yards last week.) .
Firsker was signed to the Jets after being a UDFA and here is a brief scouting report, from here (http://turnonthejets.com/2017/05/new-yo ... y-firkser/):
****************
Player Card
Name: Anthony Firkser
School: Harvard
Position: FB/TE (H-Back)
Height: 6’3
Weight: 220
Career Stats: 99 receptions, 1,559 yards, 14 touchdowns
Workout Results
40 Yard Dash: 4.79 seconds
20 Yard Shuttle: 4.29 seconds
3 Cone Drill: 7.06 seconds
Vertical Jump: 31.5 inches
Broad Jump: 9’2”
Bench Press: 21 reps of 225 lbs
Strengths: Versatile player with the ability to line up at tight end, H-Back, fullback or in the slot in certain situations. Natural receiver who has good feel for route running in short passing game and is not a body catcher. Physical player lauded for his intangibles who plays bigger than his weight. Good athleticism for a player his size who competed at the FCS level in college.
Weaknesses: Not a downhill lead blocker. More of a receiver/tight end than a fullback. He is likely to be physically overwhelmed at times when asked to play inside the box at the next level. He doesn’t flash as frequently as you would expect for a NFL UDFA against less than elite competition. He can get sloppy with his blocking technique from time to time, showing that he was a high school receiver who didn’t transition positions until college.
Final Words: Firkser is walking into an ideal roster situation for a player with his skill set. The Jets have no rostered fullback of note and their top tight end is currently a 5th round rookie, Jordan Leggett. Firkser has a realistic chance to stick on the final 53 with a strong summer as a situational fullback and H-Back, and if not should be somebody who merits practice squad consideration. The Jets are hoping they found their version of Kyle Juszczyk in Firkser, which is an ambitious expectation but if he can be 75-80% of the player, it will be a solid addition for a UDFA at a position of need.
****************
As I said, likely nothing to see here, but if you're desperate for TE depth this is an interesting dart throw and he is likely ignored on waivers this week. I would guess if he has a slight uptick in production this week he will be on a lot of waiver reports.

Re: Deep Sleeper Alert: Anthony Firsker
I'm weak at TE in a couple leagues, so I'll be watching his numbers. Thanks for the heads up.

Got his weight wrong by a lot, which is pretty important for a TE/FB/H-back.

Re: Deep Sleeper Alert: Anthony Firsker
Jonnu got murdered on that Henry run from the looks of it, was blocking two guys at once....hard to trust any receiving weapon other than Davis...who also hasn't been reliable all season lol
