Ebron

Postby Rtreilly81 » Mon Mar 19, 2018 6:23 pm

What does the signing of Ebron to Indy do to Doyle’s upside and to the sleeper appeal of Swoope?

Swoope's sleeper appeal is gone until further notice; for all we know, this signing may signal that the injury which canceled his '17 season is more severe than has been let on.

I think Doyle is probably fine insofar as what he's already been doing, i.e. low-end TE1. What Doyle can't do very well is stretch the seam, and I'm guessing that's the sort of thing Ebron's been brought on to do.

As for Ebron, don't expect fantasy fireworks, with or without Luck. He'll have a role, but Doyle is better at being a legitimate tight-end. Lions gave up on Ebron for a reason. What makes a pass-catching TE an effective complement to the WRs is his comparative play-strength advantage versus defensive-backs. But Ebron is basically a mediocre wide-receiver, in that he has mediocre WR-type athleticism at 254 lbs, but not the play-strength you'd expect would go with a guy at his weight and height. Ebron plays soft. He gets redirected in his routes and is generally ineffective near the goal-line, when the field is crowded. It's too bad, because if he actually played like his metrics, he could be elite, of course. But he just doesn't have it mentally, and I don't see why that would change now after four years in the league.

He plays soft because he is soft. His body fat % is way too high. He's more interested in selling t-shirts from his website and calling out Lions fans on twitter, than being a dedicated athlete.

I like this signing at first glance - the Colts have had a past history of using multiple TEs - dont have a proven WR behind Hilton to gobble up targets or a true pass catching RB (except Mack?) - whereas he had 2 WR1s & Riddick to compete with in Detroit, and the perhaps ascending Golladay.

I dont think this makes him a top TE - but could keep him at that low end TE1 production level.

Both his and Doyles contracts end after 2019 (assuming they make it that far) so a year or so from now could be a different story. Or after the Draft if they draft a WR high haha (which they have the capital to do).
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

For the record, I like it for Indy. Ebron is a fine move TE and this should allow them to do some creative stuff offensively.

I think this hurts Doyle a touch but doesn't really crush him.

Good acquire target IMO if his price dropped due to this.

Ebron could very well just fill Moncriefs role of catching a couple tds and not doing too much else.

I still think Doyle is a good play here. Ebron isn't good. Detroit gave him chance after chance and he blew it. He has all the talent you could ask for, he just doesn't get "it."

Ebron is young and plays a position that traditionally takes a bit of time to acclimate into. A fresh start could be just what he needs. Too early to stamp him as a failure.
