Can James White sustain this?

Postby hockeyBjj » Mon Sep 24, 2018 6:15 am

So far, he's been an incredibly consistent upper end RB2

15.6, 15.4, and 14.1 points through 3 weeks. TDs in weeks 1 and 3 and 7 receptions for 70 yards week 2. RB #15 overall

Will he keep this up with Pats having Tom Brady and a lackluster receiving core? I haven't started him yet, but he's getting hard to ignore on my bench personally

Once Edelman and Gordon are both playing, I'd say no.

Michel dropped and then didn’t complete another pass back to back late in the game.

Brady seemed to call for more White after the game.

Maybe a back end PPR RB2

if white can can get the dion lewis touches from last year...he's destined for low rb1/high rb2.

Obviously he's not going to be THIS consistent all year, but I think he's a PPR RB2 RoS. Who knows after that.

In short, to the OP's question. The answer is yeah, he probably can and will sustain this. To those thinking that Gordon will leapfrog him as far as targets and reads, I'm not sure you've watched the Patriots over the past few years. WR isn't what makes their offense work.

Also a lot of this is random too.

The play before White caught that TD pass and basically made his fantasy day....Burkhead got a target in the endzone.

He makes that catch and white doesn't deliver this week.

It was also just a bad day for the Pats offense. Even if you say he got tackled at the one, which I think is a bit more reasonable of a "what if" exercise than wiping out the catch altogether, he's still over 8 points on the day. That's not even that bad for a guy you're probably playing in the flex spot, and that's in spite of the Pats having an absolutely horrendous day on offense overall.

Broke his consistent 14-15 point games with 31.2 points today on 112 yards, 8 receptions, and 2 TDs. Seems he gets work regardless of game flow, doesn't need a negative gamescript anymore like he did last year

And I had Dalvin Cook and Jay Ajayi in my lineup and this guy on my bench :wall:

It seems as though Brady only trusts Gronk more than he does White. I'd imagine the touches stay steady and he obviously can do something with them.

So we add Edelman, Gordon but take out Burkhead. My thought is Brady prefers the short, guaranteed passes vs the long ball. I could see Gordon and Edelman opening up the short areas more for White, plus New England likes him too much to use only Sony as a three down back. I say he stays as a consistent back end RB2, FLEX play.

One encouraging thing was that White was still out there even when NE was crushing Miami, so he might be gamescript proof.

Yes. It's a high powered, well coached offense with a great QB. They can sustain two RBs, especially one who can catch with all their WR issues.
