Bell > Gordon. I would, however, trade straight up Bell for Gordon right now if I was a contender. No clue if a Gordon owner would do so, though

Bell is better, by a lot. He's just not playing currently.

Bell was traded in my main league for Melvin and first right before week 1. Wonder what that will look like in hindsight, but consensus seems to be that Melvin is a good back who benefits from massive volume, while Bell is an elite talent. Of course, being supremely talented on your bench means nothing.

The consensus will say Bell.

This past off-season an owner in my league who is rebuilding was shopping Gordon & Bell.

I opted to target Gordon instead of Bell. I feel like Gordon is grossly underappreciated and most that do not like him just like look at the stats or YPC.

Bell is more talented; but I do not think the talent gap matches the price gap. Give me Gordon at his price over Bell at his price every time.

I have Bell in one league but I just do not have a lot of trust in him. I know what I am getting with Gordon (who has only been improving).

So long story short, in my 4 player keeper league (I know, not dynasty) I traded Bell for Gordon. I have a great team and just don't want to risk Bell coming back week 10 and then for the next few weeks sharing duties with Conner killing both of their values. I kept Conner out of the deal. I didn't want to ask about it in the trade section because its not dynasty but I wanted some opinions of how everyone views both backs.

I am fine with that trade for you.
If I could flip Bell for Gordon in my other league, I would.

There is just way too much of a gap in their skill sets for me to deal Bell straight up for Gordon even if I knew with 100% certainty I wouldn't have Bell the entire year.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.

Yeah, I think in a total dynasty (which before you yell at me I know that is the name of the forum lol) I agree. If I am just trying to win it this year I think Gordon is the way to go.

Gordons floor seems to be getting safer and safer in reality, even when on paper it may not make as much sense with Ekelers success. Bell is most definitely the superior talent, but the uncertainty of his future outside of Pitt adds yet another element to his red flag list.

Not that we care about redraft here... but I offered Bell for Gordon before week 1 and it was snap accepted. I'd rather have Gordon because his situation is stable and productive. Bell will likely be out of PIT next season and player production can greatly fluctuate when they move to a new team... usually for the worse

I'm not sure Gordon's floor is that safe. He has a lot of games where he puts up stinkers that are bailed out by TD's or volume driven games where he's not very efficient. It's not say that he's a bad player, but eye test and stats will pretty much tell you why Gordon is never looked at or valued the way Bell is.

However, I do agree that if you're not big on Bell, then trading him for Gordon+ in the offseason is a wise move. Gordon will give you a respectable percentage of what Bell does and he's at least playing right now.

All running backs have games like that though - so I don't think it is fair to imply this is exclusively applied to Gordon.

The immortal Todd Gurley just put up 42 yards on 19 carries - but had 3 touchdowns so nobody cares.

I think Gordon's floor is getting higher because of his usage in the passing games and he will likely see touchdowns on a fairly regularly basis as well. I think that gives him a pretty good floor.
