Overall bad rookie performances

Postby Cowboysfan33 » Tue Sep 11, 2018 2:59 pm

I know it’s only one week into the season and most people wouldn’t be starting many of these guys but I still expected at least one of the other top players to do something of relevance besides Saquon, of course. Here’s a run down of the other top rookies:

Chubb- 3-21

Penny- 7-8 4-35

R.Freeman- 15-71

K.Johnson- 5-17 3-20

C.Sutton- 2-45

C.Ridley- 0 catches, only 2 targets

M.Gallup- 1-9

A.Miller- 2-14

C.Kirk- 1-4

DJ Moore- 1 rush for 3 yds

Tre Smith- 0 catches

Gesicki- 1-11

Goedert- 1-4

R.Jones- Inactive

Michel- Inactive

This has to be one of the worst first weeks that I can remember for rookies, without looking it up. On the bright side, Dante Pettis made a few nice plays and Sam Darnold played solid as well but it will be interesting to look back and see how this all shakes out. Also, it could give owners a chance to buy low on some players if you believe in them.

agree it was an unspectacular. Even barkley was bottled up minus that big run. im a believer in Darnold so I was glad to see is performance. He looked good! It will get better

I think we have been spoiled lately by rookies and we have forgotten it typically takes a while for great performances.

I thought Chubb looked really good. Not usable in fantasy yet. But it was promising.

If Guice was healthy, he probably would have had a pretty good game compared to those other guys.

I wouldn't say Chubb, Sutton or Freeman had bad performances. Chubb And Sutton are third on their depth charts so taking that in mind they did well with their opportunities. As for Freeman, a 15/71 yard isn't steller but it's a 4+ YPC and its something to build off of. Its also extremely rare for rookie WRs to produce immediately, and definitely later round WRs. I think expectations might be set a little too high.

Wow I was literally thinking the exact same thing. Look at APs stat line and imagine if it was Guice playing instead. He would’ve likely had an even better day. :vsad:

Yea. As a chubb owner i was actually very happy with his 3 runs. The fact they shoved the ball down hydra throat actually made me happy too because it shows hue is a bell cow type coach. So when Chubb does win the role is won't be some 70/30 bullshit.
QB - DWatson(HOU)Minshew(JAX)Darnold(NYJ)
RB -NChubb(CLE)DHenry(TEN)JTaylor(IND)Gurley(ATL)
WR -DHopkins(ARI)ACooper(DAL)CGodwin(TB)OBJ(CLE)
TE - HHenry(SD)DGoeddart(PHI)
K - Zurlien(LAR)Crosby(GB)
Def - ARI DAL
[rookie] Haskins(WAS)DSwift(DET)Jefferson(MIN)MHardman(KC)
7th pick in 2021

Rosters must always be 3qbs 4wrs 4rbs 2tes 2kickers 2dst and protected players don't take up a roster spot, but are only for rookie/2nd-year players that were drafted

It's week 1, the rookies will gradually be worked, like they typically are.

Sam Darnold looked good.
Dante Pettis looked good and may be seeing an increased role.
Phillip Lindsay looks to be a player to have a role all season.
Will Dissly impressed.
Nyheum Hines, left for dead, showed he will be involved.

More to come in the coming weeks..

I'd think Sutton had a decent game for what he's surrounded by....aka Emmanuel blowing up and DT having a solid afternoon.

Moore and Ridley though, where art thou week 1.

I thought Kerryon looked pretty good in his limited touches. That one-handed catch was slick and he had a couple good rushes. That game just got out of hand quick. With Blount knicked up, I think his role is going to expand slowly but surely.

Good responses from everyone. Like I said, I know it’s way early, just expected some of the “bigger” names, so to speak, to maybe stand out a little more. I own pretty much all of them, in one league or another, so I’m not overly biased. The rookie that I’m worried about the most that I own is R.Jones, which I’m sure most of his owners are, being that he wasn’t even active.
