Vastly overpaid. Maybe he's going to double as a leftie for the Mariners.

Very odd deal, even if he went for 1,200 receiving yards I don't think he would have gotten north of 10/11 million in the open market.

The Seahawks have been doing questionable things for a while now. This continues that trend.

Don't underestimate the market for WRs in free agency. Names of players that earned near $10 mil/year in free agency this year.
  • Donte Moncrief (9.6 mil)
  • Marqise Lee (8.5 mil)
  • Paul Richardson (8 mil)
  • Albert Wilson (8 mil)
This is not a list of 1200 yard receivers. If the Seahawks do plan to get Lockett more involved in the offense this year they'd want to get him under contract sooner rather than later.

Which really just highlights the problem in the NFL. RBs can't get paid what their worth. Meanwhile middling talents at WR are constantly getting handed too much with no expectations. I'm hopeful the next CBA will take performance into account and try to level the playing field a bit more. I have no issue with QBs making a lot of money as they are the primary contributor to every football team, positively or negatively. But the idea that guys on this list are making as much or more than elite RBs is just a running joke.

RBs need to start their own union. Need to demand playing time escalators for rookie contracts. Most positions you are learning for a year or two; at RB you could be washed up by your second contract

Lockett confirmed to be Seattle's anointed successor to Baldwin.

He's made All-Pro three out of three seasons, and one of those seasons he did it on an injured PCL for 14 weeks and another he did it at 80% conditioning.

So, you don't know what you're talking about.

^ If we are factoring in the return special teams games, which has to be factored in, Lockett's contract is probably deserved now that I'm looking at it in that light.

Purely as a WR though I'm not completely sold but the 2nd contract WR market is out of control no doubt mostly a lot of overpaid guys on the list IMO.
