Doug Baldwin - Cliff ahead?

Postby ArrylT » Tue Aug 28, 2018 4:05 pm

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... ire-season

Doug Baldwin has openly stated that his knee may not be 100% for the entire season.

""I'm probably about 80, 85 percent right now and the truth of the matter is it won't be 100 percent. It's just something I've got to deal with the rest of the season.""

2017 season saw him as a WR2 not a WR1 like 2015-2016.

Some sites are already projecting him out of the top 24 WRs for the 2018 season.

Baldwin is going to be 30 in less than a month.

If you have not already - you may wish to sell Baldwin, if you are not a contender, or wish to move to a similar but younger WR2/3.

Who would rise up in his ashes? Jaron Brown?

Want no part of this team. Crazy thing is Wilson is being drafted as the #2 qb in drafts. I won't be with those weapons. Yikes.

I could still see him being a back-end WR1/high end WR2.

Baldwin at 80% is still better than any other option they have.

Plus - players rarely play at 100%.

Wilson makes players around him, not the other way around.

Wilson has never had a great cast of pass catchers. Far from it.

If Lockett's ADP in redraft isn't rising after this, it should be.

There's a reason the Hawks are mothballing him this preseason.

Exactly what he already was before with a knee that had no limitation? You're saying his play will be completely unaffected, basically.

Baldwin doesn't beat guys physically, he relies on technique and quickness. If his knee is really going to hamper him, I can see a decline in his productivity. When you're talking about the difference being open is a step, his knee might only make that difference half a step--just enough for a DB to interfere with the catch. He's a sell for me. Being 30 soon, also doesn't bode well. Bodies take longer to heal past 30, him playing in games will slow that down even more, and his future production will suffer because of it.

For context - I felt he had top 5 upside this year prior to this injury news, so maybe I should have led with that.
He is still going to be the primary target, see more targets and get more red zone looks than ever before.

I do not view guys like Lockett, Darboh, Marshall or whoever else a threat to that workload - even with the injury.

This. I literally sat here with my fingers hovering over my keyboard to suggest but just decided it wasn't worth it. Baldwin didn't make Wilson great. He's been doing it with arguably average talent since his rookie year and even persisted with a declining and bottom of the league O-Line.
