Fantasy punting

Hello friends,

My wife wants to start a new league this fall because she didn't have one for the first time last year (all her previous ones dissolved). She's been researching ideas for "fun" things to do with it, and today she sent me a message about the idea of adding the punter position into the league. I almost dropped my phone reading it.

The punter?!?

Please talk me off the ledge and tell me why she's not bat-s**t insane right now.

Like 1% for every pint yard and double for ones inside the 20?

5 punts for 40 yards 200 yards. 2 points. Maybe 3 of those were inside the 20 so like 3 points?

I dunno maybe 0.02 per pint yard.

They should be able to win you games but very rarely

Special teams are still an important part of the NFL (even though they seem to be trying to get rid of it) so sure why not - so long as it is fantasy feasible!

One of the leagues I'm in uses punters. It gives 1 point for punts inside the 20, 3 for punts inside the 10, and -4 for blocked punts. It doesn't amount to a ton of points per week, but it's something different.

First, your wife is pure awesome. Second, whatever the scoring system, they should probably score around a little less than than kickers and defenses. So, just barely enough to notice them, but not enough to to embarrass most kicker and defense scoring.

Very team dependent position rather than punter ability imo, but in many cases so is the kicker

I'd do something like a point per punt over X (40?) Net yards, 2 points over 50, 3 over 60 (not fully sure on distances there] and then point inside 20, 2 points inside 10, 3 points inside 5, rather than total yards punted turning into a score

If you have a return yards league I would say that is a fair idea. Complex to implement but maybe net punt yards are 1/2 of return yards scoring. 5 pt bonus inside the 5, 3 pt bonus for inside the 10 and 1pt for inside the 20?

However it would be like CB's reverse scoring in a way (bad CB's score more) where you don't necessarily want the best punter but the punter from the team with the worst offense
