D'Onta Foreman - price check!

Postby Life of Pablo » Wed Aug 15, 2018 1:31 pm

Hey guys. Getting some interest from other owners on acquiring D'Onta Foreman... he is a tough one to value. I know a number of people (including myself) were a fan of his size/speed combination before his injury.

The potential upside is enormous (as it seems likely that the Texans will move on from Miller after this season), but so is the risk as he may very well never fully recover from his Achilles injury. He's also only 22 years and 4 months old, so time is on his side... but that doesn't mean the Texans will be patient with him. And there's been very little said about him in camp, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't exactly exude confidence.

I think a good starting point is, where do you value him relative to the incoming rookie RBs, especially now that the top ones are starting to bleed a little in terms of value? I'm not suggesting that Foreman is worth a 1st, but how far behind the top 8 RBs is he really? And if you're down on him, what other rookie RBs do you think are ahead of him (Hines, Ballage, etc.)?

I included a poll so you can give a quick value that way, but given the combination of upside/risk with Foreman, any discussion helps.

I was very high on him last year, but I do have some concerns with his injury. Based off that, if I were to move on from him, I'd want an early 2nd where I'd target a guy like Ballage who has a similar profile... not as good running but better catching so it's a wash to me.

That’s a serious injury to come back from, so I would say mid 2nd now. I have him in several leagues and have shopped him around some and I’m not getting really much of any interest.

Don't look now, but reports claim Lamar Miller has lost some weight, and he legitimately looked quicker and faster in the first preseason game. It jumped out at me.

Foreman's value is in accelerating decline, so far as I'm concerned. I repeatedly tried to trade for him early last year and now I'm grateful I was shut down. Texans are taking another RB with a Day 1/2 pick in '19 or '20.

If memory serves, an early 2nd round pick was roughly Foreman's ADP last year. His value has not maintained since then. He's had a serious injury that could permanently diminish his burst, he struggled as a rookie and couldn't usurp one of the league's least elusive running-backs in '17, and it's looking more and more likely he'll miss the first six games of the season. And even when he does come back, his conditioning will probably be terrible.
where do you value him relative to the incoming rookie RBs
'18's rookies?

He isn't close to any of the top bunch, even with all the negative developments.

I'd rate Foreman a hair behind Jordan Wilkins.

Well using the Guice logic, Foreman should have the same value pre injury. He was a late first round to early second round pick last year, so he keeps that value. In fact, it should be higher because his situation is now better. He has a stud QB in a good looking offense. I want a piece of that offense if I can get it.

Realistically, Foremans value is somewhere around early to mid second round, but I'd rather hold him than sell him for that.

But you shouldn't use the Guice logic because it doesn't fit here.

Foreman's injury is more serious, and he didn't play well last year. PFF graded him 59.9 for the season. That's below replacement-level.

This is not comparable to Guice, who's expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the offseason program. And Guice hasn't put out the bad tape Foreman did in '17.

I'd probably take him somewhere between five and eight in this year's class, so I guess back of the first, top of the second?

Personally I would have a hard time giving up a late 2nd for him. More than that is an easy no.

I think Miller is going to surprise some people this year.

Even before the injury, I had him valued as a 2nd round pick. I voted 2.05-2.08 which is still pretty generous. This assumes that guys like Gallup, Miller, Ballage are already gone.

I believe still, so I'm holding. His value is still 1st/2nd to me. If he doesn't play at all this year though, or plays really poorly, then his value will (unfortunately for the truthers) tank. It's one of those situations where the current owners can't really win right now.

I would only move him for a 1st. I dont see the point in trading in for a 2nd round when that is already getting into the 3rd/4th tier of rookie RBs. I still think he can be much better than that.

where i own him, we have already drafted. i tried a few offers in the early 2nd for some wr's that i had interest in, but ultimately was denied. not sure that i received any offers prior to the draft, and am certain that i havent since.

grabbed him late 1st/early 2nd like most last year and didnt anticipate him being a stud right out of he gate. if he comes back next year...i'll be happy to reevaluate the situation then. i dont really see any reason to pay more than a future 3rd, but im not going to sell for that.

if your asking for your sig team (and its correct) he would be my 4th cut (or decision on who's there at 4.10)(breida, mcguire, hollins, foreman for me)
