Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
If the DST isn't like the Ravens, Jags, Ram, Eagles, Vikings class than sure.
I mean what did we 'think' this time last year?
Gilslee was going early in drafts as the guy if I remember. Some guys where on James White. Dion Lewis was on the roster bubble.

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
Plus, just focusing on week 1, if Michel isn't ready to go with Edelman suspended 4 games it's very possible Burkhead (if he's ready to go) and or James White gets a little more slot work.
And thus the Pats may have a need for more a late game grinder, goal line guy ect
If anyone didn't see the Pats preseason game that has tips the scales on Hill which sounds absurd but he made an excellent block that got the coaches riled up on the sideline and converted a 3rd down pass into a 1st down.
He looked the part.
Dynasty asset no.
Possible depth RB?
I guess so.

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
For me, he is as good as any dart throw out there. Guess it really depends on who else is out there too. If you are referencing the team in your signature, i wouldnt carry a 2nd D behind Jacksonville. I would just stream one for the bye week and then drop them since you will be starting Jacksonville every other week.
I also like the potential for Hill after New England if he plays well. This is a one year showing and if he gets a chance to show he can still play, who knows.

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
I can easily see Hill putting up 800 yards rushing, 10 TD's, and probably around 15 receptions. At that point, he is probably a pretty valuable rb2 that is basically free right now.
Between Gillislee and Lewis, you have 284 rushes unaccounted for. I think its reasonable that Hill could get 200 of those.

Here is a list of all the Patriots RBs ranked by various sites - take it with a grain of salt because one site, NFL.com ranks Hill for PPR but not for non-ppr.

I think we all know what is going to happen here. We are all going to sit here and argue about Sony's knee and Burkhead's mysterious injury and which one of them is going to lead the team or whether or not Hill or Gillislee are going to come in and be the best fantasy option.
Then Brandon Bolden is going to lead the team in rushing and TDs.

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
I cannot recall - and do not really want to look - was there a prediction last year on who would lead the Patriots backfield? I think Gillislee was the leading choice - and obviously it ended up being Lewis. Would be ironic I guess if it did end up being Gillislee this year (not saying that is the likely outcome).

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
I think whoever gets cut out of Hill and Gillislee could have the most fantasy relevance... Whoever is left behind will be too inconsistent and low down the depth chart to ever start.
- If the guy that gets cut gets signed elsewhere, I think they have a clearer path to carries wherever it is
- If no one signs them then they are an easy cut and you get a free roster spot for someone else, which will be more valuable than holding and hoping you have *the* Patriots goal line back

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
Two things matter here:
1. Volume
2. Special Teams
Hill is not a special teams contributor; Burkhead, Michel and Brandon Bolden are. So, that's out the way. This is important because it leads to inactives. Last year, Gillislee was inactive because of it and they rolled with Lewis, White, Burkhead, and Bolden as the active RB's.
So, how does Hill become relevant enough as an early down back? He offers nothing in the passing game with White, Burkhead and Michel there. So, he would essentially need to corner a bulk of the carries on the team to be relevant. I doubt that happens, considering how much the Patriots rotate backs and their preference to have an RB on the field who can run and catch.
I guess if you play in leagues with deep lineup requirements, then he could hold value as a TD-dependent RB3/4, but in most leagues that's not anything interesting.

Re: Jeremy Hill potential for 2018
As the originator of this thread, i feel the need to come clean. LOL. I dropped Hill in our rookie draft this weekend to make room for Peyton Barber. Wouldn't say this means i think Hill is useless, but i felt Barber provided better opportunity.
I will say though that Hill actually has been playing on all of the special teams units in the preseason i believe.

I would have switched Hill for Barber as well - good move.

Excluding all data except for the "eye-test".......
Hill has looked good running the ball this preseason.
I think he has done enough to have a role for NE or the team that picks him up after he is cut.

Jealous much? Of course you are.

A bunch of league settings you won't read anyways....numbers and such
QB - A guy with only one or two good years left in the tank
RB1 - A guy who stands charged with several minor crimes (Guilty until proven, right?)
RB2 - Young guy that is only good because of his offensive line and workload
WR1 - A guy whose metrics make up for his stone hands
WR2 - A dude who is probably too short to catch the ball
TE - This guy played basketball, right?
DEF & K - I guess we are still doing this .. ...
