Either Akins had a pre-game injury and reporters are oblivious, or the Texans actually treated him like a 1st-team starter and completely rested him

I’ve searched and I cannot find any information as to why Akins wasn’t out there. He looked really good in the 1st preseason game, so it really makes you wonder why he wasn’t out there at all for the 2nd.

You would think something would have came out one way whether he came down with an injury pregame or if they didn’t play him because they view him as a starter now. But I still would have figured he would have gotten in some, even he is the starter. Especially with him being a rookie, they want to see him get more reps I would think.

As much as I'd like to believe it, that latter scenario seems really implausible. Sure, Akins is a very mature rookie that already knows how to be a pro athlete from his time playing baseball, but he's still a rookie. He still needs reps. Why rest him if he's healthy?

Texans Reddit says he played but had no targets. Was used as a blocker.

That doesn't clarify the depth chart at all, but at least he isn't injured.

Thank you, Pac_Eddy. Did you happen to note if he got his blocking reps mixed in with the 1st-team alongside Griffin?

I should really just stop being lazy and go look at the tape. I need to see how he fared as a blocker, anyway.

No, I don't know when or where whom he played.

My gut says Griffin has the best chance to be the starter, though Texans TE hasn't been a gold mine of fantasy points.

Hype train has slowed a bit the last 2 weeks. Anyone still think he could be in line to start or at least be the #2 TE?

He didn’t have any stats the last game either. So that’s 2 consecutive preseason games where he didn’t put up a single stat. Not exactly a good thing. Granted Griffin not Anderson put up any stats either. I think Ryan Griffin is the starter, but Akins may have the #2, but I honestly have no clue.

I always find after week 3 you know exactly how guys are panning out. Unfortunately it's often too late by then to pick guys up off waivers or make a deal based off a hunch.

Hopefully some clarity week 1.

I think Griffin starts but keep him on the watch list.

I just had my last pick in the second half of my rookie draft and debated between J'mon Moore and Akins. I took Moore

Griffin is definitely the starter right now.

Akins is still a stash, but I need him to make waves soon or I'm not gonna keep him rostered.

Gotta think a 3rd round pick factors into a team's plans for at least a couple of years. Not like they invited an undrafted guy to camp
