Jordan Akins

Postby Jcedwards » Sat Aug 11, 2018 2:31 pm

Thoughts on him going forward?

He is an older rookie, but he looked good in his first preseason game. He also shouldn’t have too hard of a time passing Ryan Griffin on the pecking order for the Texans if he continues to play well.

I like him. He has a good shot at contributing and his cost is low. Seems like a good flier.

I have him stashed in my 2TE league but I think people are making a mistake sleeping on Anderson.

Anderson is outside looking in; we are all thinking he will get cut. Texans took Akins and they love Thomas who they got in the 6th round

Can't beat the price-tag.

Akins may yet develop into a never-leaves-the-field combo-TE; Akins has a better bench press score than Hurst, Goedert, Gesicki, etc, suggesting he has the play-strength to develop into an effective blocker.

Matt Waldman commented that Akins was the best contested catcher he'd seen at the Senior Bowl practices in over a decade. Waldman and other scouts also noted that Akins consistently separated from man-coverage.

As for the preseason TD catches, what I liked most is how he slyly pushed off his cover man at his break to win separation on one of the catches. That's a Gronkowski and Gates signature move. The push has to be strong enough to do the job, but subtle enough not to get flagged for offensive PI.

I’m starting to like him more and more too. I think I down to deciding between him and Vannett for a stash.

He made some nice plays in the senior bowl which I put a decent amount of stock in. It's a high pressure game.

Senior Bowl is 100% the reason the Texans reached on him in the 3rd round. His grade was like late Day 3 before that.

Someone has to emerge at the TE spot for Houston. This guy could be the guy. Good upside

I grabbed Akins in the 7th round (7.01) and Mark Andrews in the 8th round (8.01) of my rookie/dynasty draft last night. Hoping one can become a serviceable player!

I am very high on Akins. He's older, but honestly think that helps him. He looks like a vet, and that's what you want at the TE position.

Does anyone know if he played at all last night? I know that he didn’t record any stats, but wasn’t sure if he was out there at all last night.

Been wanting to know myself. I can't find any list of Houston's inactives (plenty of returns for the 49er inactives), and the only two Texan injuries I've seen reported during the game were Kevin Johnson (concussion, shoulder) and Sammie Coates (concussion). And I know Ryan Griffin was targeted on the first series.

Either Akins had a pre-game injury and reporters are oblivious, or the Texans actually treated him like a 1st-team starter and completely rested him along with a few other starters like Hopkins and Fuller (Braxton Miller and Bruce Ellington also played on the first series with Griffin). :?

Tried to find this myself and couldn't find anything either. I watched pieces of the game and never saw him in there.
