Pats have been trying out Dorsett in the slot since training camp began, and reportedly he's done well with the opportunity. This may have factored in their decision to just let Matthews go, since it seems the injury is severe enough that he could be sidelined for all or most of August.

If the latter, Matthews isn't likely to be signed by another team soon. Teams won't add a camp-body that can't actually participate in camp.

A while back I remember a forum member (possibly by the name of JMatt or something) that had in his sig every position filled by JMatt, because what more do you need?

I wonder how his fantasy team is looking...

The bolded is mildly interesting to me. Dorsett wasn't exactly set up for success with the last minute trade before the start of the season, and the fantasy football community has been growing increasingly impatient with player development (Davante Adams, Nelson Agholor, etc).

Chances are he doesn't amount to anything fantasy relevant, but I'll roster him just incase.

So far, Dorsett is the WR4 on NE's depth-chart, effectively Edelman's backup. At times he's been working directly with Brady and Edelman.

With Matthews gone and Mitchell sidelined too, this isn't altogether surprising. It seems Dorsett really only has to beat out Berrios, McCarron, and Slater to be the starter in the slot while Edelman is suspended.

Kenny Britt is currently the starter on the outside opposite Hogan.

JMatt was never as good as his fantasy fans thought he was. He isn't a terrible player but he isn't special at anything and big slot guys are not typically "featured" players

I bought hard into this too lol.

Not in the aspect where I overpaid to acquire him, he was WW in m league. But I was on the side where he was going to have a immediate impact, his year in Buffalo I just ignored because of injuries. I figured this would be his second shot, because he didn't put up bad numbers when he did start.

But here we are, that's the nature of FF, right when you think you have part of it figured out, something like this happens.

god I love and hate FF lol. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Yep, 20/20 hindsight is easy, but truth is there's also always some players who have terrible career starts (injury, under-performance, etc.) and then rise to the top.

DT had an injury-plagued early career, Ingram underperformed his first three years, etc. - JMatt's not looking like he bounces back. Even the truthers gotta be checking themselves.

Have to stir the pot, and I know there's no likely scenario in which this comes to pass, but the Pats brought in Decker so maybe there's a chance they'd at least consider taking a look at Dez? I'd so rather see him catching a few balls each week from Brady in New England rather than ending up in Cleveland.

you know I was thinking Dez too, I was highly considering going after him and offering a second, however, if he doesn't go there then im totally out a second.

Its so strange no one wants to give this guy a shot, like he can be someone's WR2 right?
