2018 Training Camp Superstars

Postby Jjipp » Mon Jul 30, 2018 6:23 pm

It's that time of year again -- where there is an awful lot of smoke that seldom turns into fire...but occasionally does turn into wildfires.

Let's have a thread running of all of the guys that are getting a lot of beat writer love. Try to keep the names to the truly deeper names (at least 3rd round rookie ADP) as opposed to the BleacherReport or CBSSports articles talking about Anthony Miller or Dante Pettis as "sleepers."

Last year a similar thread I started talked about Robby Anderson, Taywan Taylor, and Trent Taylor as guys who were playing very well. Their stocks have all definitely gone up since the start of last year's training camp.

So far the names I've seen talked about are...

-Deon Cain WR Colts - playing very well, and outplaying Daurice Fountain fairly regularly
-Boston Scott RB Saints - felt to be a constant mismatch and Darren Sproles 2.0
-Jordan Lasley WR Ravens - having a few drops but outplaying Jaleel Scott pretty regularly
-Auden Tate WR Bengals - looking large and in charge with back-to-back 1 handed touchdown catches today
-Isaiah Ford WR Dolphins - is back from his injury and looking destined for the 53, along with making Leonte Carroo look like a cut candidate
-Justin Watson WR Bucs - is obviously buried, but playing well
-Akrum Wadley RB Titans - looking shifty in space
Casterly Rock Hard
14 team, 0.5 PPR, 30-man

QB - P. Mahomes, J. Garoppolo
RB - L. Fournette, D. Cook, M. Breida, R. Freeman, Justice Hill, Dex. Williams, R. Burkhead
WR - K. Allen, S. Diggs, C. Davis, C. Kirk, Ty. Williams, Taywan Taylor, J'M Moore, A. Callaway, D. Cain, M. Boykin, B. Berrios, D. Bryant,
TE - E. Engram, V. McDonald, A. Seferian-Jenkins, G. Everett, A. Shaheen

Chris Carson. He's going to lead the Universe in rushing. :D

Tre'quan Smith is making big plays regularly, supposedly.

Ive also heard Tre’quan Smith has looked great for the Saints, and Jordan Wilkins RB for the Colts has looked good. Wilkins in particular only has to beat Marlon Mack so he has a good shot at becoming the guy.

QB: Kirk Cousins, Mitchell Trubisky,

WR: Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Tyreek Hill, Tyler Boyd, Sammy Watkins, Robby Anderson, John Ross, Jordan Lasley, Albert Wilson, Isaiah McKenzie, Kendrick Bourne

I've also heard Mack looks good, though. Mack is a much better player IMO, Wilkins is a soon to be 24 year old rookie with unimpressive metrics, so I have my doubts about him getting the nod. I've heard Hines looks good in the passing game, so who knows. I think with the way Mack flashed last year, and know knowing he played with a torn labrum (I think it was) all season, he is the heavy favourite for the early down role. Mack made some plays last year I don't think Wilkins can make, he has an explosiveness that Wilkins lacks. Not invested in Mack, just remember seeing some of those plays last year, and with Luck back and Nelson added, I think Mack could have a decent year. He doesn't seem to be valued around here, so I'm putting my feelers out while any Wilkins hype is out there.

I'm hearing Corey Davis is looking like the GOAT we all hope can be.
QB - DWatson(HOU)Minshew(JAX)Darnold(NYJ)
RB -NChubb(CLE)DHenry(TEN)JTaylor(IND)Gurley(ATL)
WR -DHopkins(ARI)ACooper(DAL)CGodwin(TB)OBJ(CLE)
TE - HHenry(SD)DGoeddart(PHI)
K - Zurlien(LAR)Crosby(GB)
Def - ARI DAL
[rookie] Haskins(WAS)DSwift(DET)Jefferson(MIN)MHardman(KC)
7th pick in 2021

Rosters must always be 3qbs 4wrs 4rbs 2tes 2kickers 2dst and protected players don't take up a roster spot, but are only for rookie/2nd-year players that were drafted

Yeah, heard he made a few downfield plays. Also saw him get handled by Malcolm Butler and Butler got a pick, so who knows. Can't be worse than last year, though. I had high hopes for him coming out of college, but hopefully this year he'll get it together. They have to get better on offense, they can't possibly be worse. 14 TD's to 16 INT's or whatever it was for Mariota? Another season like that and the word bust will start coming out. Seemed like the coaching staff did not know how to use his skill set.

Rashard Higgins has been making a bunch of plays on the 2nd team with Baker, so he got some first team looks. Not exactly a superstar, but supposedly having good chemistry with their first overall pick can't hurt his chances.

Taywan Taylor and Anthony Miller have sounded like Superstars in camp.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

John Brown is getting a lot of love from the Ravens beat writers. Hard to put much faith in him staying healthy all season, but if he does form a good connection with Flacco an stays healthy he could end up having a monster season.
