12 is the best number. I find that with 10 and 8 man leagues it often takes more luck than skill because it's stacked team vs. stacked team. With 14 and 16 man leagues, especially with deep rosters, talent can be spread somewhat thin, and although that means more intensity and thrill with finding the diamond in the rough, I think 12 is the best league size.

I prefer deep leagues...16 team, 43 man rosters. I like to work to find a gem in the FA market..

standard scoring w/ppr

QB- Palmer, Cassel, Dalton(r), Mallett(r), Collins
RB-
WR- Fitz, Marshall, Nicks, Crabtree, SJohnson, Gibson, Burton(r), Roberts, Randle El, Cruz
TE- Davis, Cook
PK- Nedney
DE/DT- Cole, Umenyiora, Biermann, Gregg, Liuget(r), Coleman
LB- Mayo, Ruud, Lofton, Houston(r), TDavis, English
CB/S- Branch, Verner, Chung, Barber, Fletcher, Greene, Gregory, ABerry, Peterson(r)

Easily 16 - the competition, and the reward for succeeding, is much greater. In fact, my second choice, which isn't even listed, would be 20 teams.

With twelve teams, I go crazy week to week adding players and seeing other players on the waiver that should be on a team somewhere - I usually end up suggesting FA moves to other owners. I don't see trading being any different between 12 and 16 team leagues - usually there are other factors that affect trading, especially in salary leagues.

I am currently in 16, 12 and 8 team dynasty leagues.

My preference is the 16 team format with relatively small rosters to allow for a free agent market that is worth something. But, I like the larger number of owners. And, I like the play off format where 8 teams go to the play offs and no bye weeks for it.
16 team PPR Est. 2002 (Champion: 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016)
Start: QB, 2-4WR, 2-3RB, 1-2TE, K, D
QB: Russell Wilson, Zach Wilson
RB: Barkley, Mixon, Chubb, Hunt, G. Bernard
WR: Adams, Metcalf, Callaway, Shepard, Watkins, Fuller, T. Williams, Proche
TE: Kelce, Pitts, Njoku, Seals-Jones
K: Gay
D: Vikings

used to play in a 16-team redraft and loved it, but it got very hard to keep 16 guys in it, so we eventually cut to 12.

all of my current dynasties are 12, and I think that's a perfect number though I'd definitely try out a larger league too. Anything less though, like seahawks506 wrote, is just star vs. star and too dependent on luck.

My two leagues are both 10 teams. I like that a lot, but I could do 12 teams too. More that that dilutes the talent pool too much and makes you very susceptible to injury.
ROCHESTER ROADKILL: 10 team league: Starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR,, 1 TE, 1 PK, 1 DST 1 flex RB/WR, 1 superflex QB/RB/WR/TE.

Superflex, PPR, Pass TD = 6 pts.

QB: Mahomes, Hurts, Lance, B.Young, A.Richardson, M.Cunningham
RB: Chubb, A.Jones, Bijan, Gibbs, J.Williams (DEN), Dobbins, Dillon, Z.White, T. Spears, R.Johnson, Z.Evans
WR: Lamb, Higgins, M.Brown (ARI), Ridley, Pittman, E.Moore, J.Williams (DET), Dotson, Doubs, Q.Johnston, Smith-Njigba
TE: Schultz, Kincaid
PK: Koo
DST: Chiefs. Lions
2024 picks: 1.02, 1.05, 1.06, 2.06, 3.02, 3.08, 3.10
League Champion: 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022

12 team leagues provide the perfect balance IMO but the size of the league is only part of the equation. Any size league will work with the right roster size...

I like a 12 team league the best, with a roster size of anywhere between 20-30. That way, there are at least some gems still on the waiver wire. One of my 12 team laeagues went from 30 to 35 player roster this past season. There was NOTHING left on the WW. I was all for it at the time, but if I had to vote again, I would change it back.

8 team leagues , I hate. There is always so much talent on the WW , No-one wants to make trades. 10 teams is the smallest i would play. Now, a 16 team league sounds interesting...never tried it.

16 for sure, ecspecially a 16 team salary league that is where it gets really interesting.

Never went any higher then 16 so not sure what thats like so my 2nd choice would be 12

Never played in a 16 only 10 and 12. I like 12 better. In the 10 team league the wire provides too much of a safety net - people could pick up players and immediately put them in their line-ups. I like having to work the wire and predict future performance more than that.

I perfer 12 or more teams. I will play a 10 team league, but I won't play in an 8 team league due to the decrease in skill involved.

I like 14 teams. everyone plays everyone in a 13 game regular season, and the talent pool is spread thin enough to make it more of a challenge.
