Most Likely Boom/Bust Rookie WR 2018 ONLY Poll - Pick 3

Postby ArrylT » Mon Jul 09, 2018 8:11 pm

Inspired by the Rookie RB poll - just curious to know which, if ANY, Rookie WRs you think will have the most WR1-2 (top 24 in 12 team PPR) weeks. Hence Boom/Bust, for three weeks they'll be on your bench, and then one week BOOM.

This does not mean that they will finish a top 24 WR, Cooper Kupp for example did not finish as a top 24 WR, but did have 2-3 weeks where he had WR1-2 weeks. Heck Corey Davis was a WR2 in Week I.

Rather which rookie WRs, by virtue of either immediate opportunity, or perhaps luck, for 2018 ONLY, do you feel are most likely to have a couple (or more) weeks where they will actually finish as a top 24 WR.

You may select up to 3 choices

I listed the top 12 DLF Ranked Rookie WRs in case you are wondering why your favorite sleeper is missing.

Gallup - early opportunity / less competition for targets could give rise to some big weeks
Washington & Tre'Quan Smith - both for similar reasons. In those attacks, there will be weeks where Ben/Brees go absolutely nuts and there wll just be yards & TD's on offer. They're not guys I think you'd start at any point this year, but I could see them having the most WR1 weeks
Dynasty - 9th year, 12-team, Standard scoring, 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 2FLEX, 1K, 1DE/DT, 1LB, 1CB/S - 25man roster / 6 Taxi Squad
'17 Champ, '18 Runner Up, '23 rebuild

QB Watson, A Richardson, O' Connel (TS)
RB Gibbs, Akers, Dillon Carter, Bigsby, Chase Brown, Mcintosh, Tucker, Hull (TS)
WR Metcalf, DJ Moore, Addison, Meyers, Van Jefferson, Collins, Claypool, Mingo (TS), Hyatt (TS), Wilson (TS)
TE Higbee, Freirmuth, Otton (TS)
K Joseph
DE/DT Hunter
LB Franklin Simmons
C/S James

1 Top 24 WR week? I think quite a few of these guys could catch a long TD and have one good week next season.

If you think all of them can, then pick the 3 you think will have the most. 8-)

Gallup and Miller. Both can beat press coverage and have very limited competition.
Moore is my third choice.

That said several others should have a good week or two. One top 24 week is a pretty low bar.

Miller, Gallup, Ridley and Pettis at a minimum but I could only pick 3. A single top 24 week isn't going to be hard to do. How many finish top 24 over the course of the season will be a much shorter list.

everyone so sky high on gallup based on perceived opportunity, anyone actually like the guy as a player? he seems ok to me but im not excited about him. also if freaking dez bryant couldnt produce in the role he will have then how do we expect a rookie 3rd rounder to do better? im curious about this guy as hes just not really on my radar but i see tons of love for him (but it really screams opportunity only to me)

This seems a bit of a rabbit trail that will dangerously lead us yet again down the path of the "Dez or Dak" discussion again. My responses were just in consideration of the question at hand... So I pulled a random week (week 7) from last season because it was a week that Dez scored almost 20 points. Here are some of the names in the top 24 that week:

Kenny Stills, Ted Ginn, Travis Benjamin, Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Mack Hollins, Albert Wilson, Brandon LaFell, Mohamed Sanu, Desean Jackson...

With those names appearing in not just a single week but all in the same week, it leads me to believe that there is a good possibility that every name on this list will have at least one top 24 week. The ones I selected were based on the players I believed would have the most significant roles on their respective clubs.

Not to get too far track here but have you noticed just how many draft picks the Cowboy's have lately playing large roles in year one?

FYI, He was my number one WR on the draft board long before the Cowboys took him. Pro Football Focus which analyzes every play a player makes in college and the pros also had him ranked at the top of this class.

Dez actually did produce, just not at the level the Cowboys felt he should given his contract.

I do get people not really high on him but his tape is actually really good on NFL type routes that matter and his ability to beat press coverage. W's the first few years can be a crap shoot for sure but his situation, which this topic is about makes him an easy top 3 selection.

Just wanted to thank everyone who voted! I may do this again down the road - but will have to think on changing the parameter - since it is indeed true that a Top 24 week isnt that hard to reach for any WR. Will be interesting to review at years end and see which WR had the most.

Interesting to note that no poster (so far) has shared a sleeper rookie.

I think if Norv puts DJ Moore on the field it will be a good year for him .. obviously meeting Norv's high WR standards for playing time cannot be a bad thing no?
