I didn't agree with the entire article. In the Zeke example, I believed Morris would be the primary back and would put up startable numbers. I didn't both pursuing McFadden because I didn't believe in him at all.

A muddled backfield behind a bellcow just makes personal evaluations important. I like to stash bench backs in case the primary goes down, but didn't go after either Scott or Edmunds in NO. I think Jonathan Williams is the best long play. Don't think any ARI RB would be the primary back if DJ went down.

Edit- seems tombonneau is on the same track.

I'd rather have good depth and go for next man up then have the backup just to have the backup. Don't accumulate mediocrity just to have a supposed starter. It's normally RBBC anyway when a starter goes down.

I don't specifically target handcuffs of the players I own but I did unintentionally end up with Guice/Perine & Mixon/Gio. I don't mind having them but I wouldn't specifically recommend it as a strategy.

It is informative to see how different people approach the use of handcuffs - and just like many things in dynasty - there does not seem to be one set approach that works for everyone. I am however quite intrigued by cazzie & clarions willingness to use handcuffs on each other. ;)

I don't go out of my way to handcuff my own players. I try and grab cheap, late round guys that I could invision a scenario where they could pay off bigly if things break right.

Rod Smith, Terrence West, Boston Scott are the types I'm trying to roster now. Edmunds was my favorite, but the hype has really driven up his ADP in the past months.

I have quite a few, and yes, it does feel at times to be "wasted" roster spots. But I'm not expecting each one to actually have value. All it takes is one in an emergency to come through for you (bye week flex type situation) and I feel the strategy pays for itself. They were very cheap/free to acquire through waivers or through small side trades of players I would cut. Additionally, some have just happened naturally (ex..Lynch/Martin). Plus it's just not realistic that I'm going to have an RB or WR 1/2 with every roster spot.

Also by having handcuffs and then trading the pair you can artificially inflate the value of your side of any trades you do. It may not resonate with all owners, but it's kind of like buying an extended warranty..lol. Some people like it and some don't.

I only cuff when 1) there is a clear cuff and 2) the cuff has potential.

It's all well and good to cuff, but if you cuff with a guy who isn't good, what good does that do you?

I think handcuffs should be used when you're arresting an offender to restrain them from harming you or fleeing. Other acceptable uses are in the bedroom but one must have defined limits of their use and a safe word where use of the handcuff will end. Magicians may also use handcuffs, but I question their integrity and think they may be better classified as a prop-handcuff.

I like to hancuff so that I know I have viable players should my starters get injured. There's nothing worse that being desperate to make a trade and the other owner knows it. You'll be forced to over pay. But I sometimes get stuck with multiple backups because of the uncertainty. See below ... I have the Seahawks enire RB bench. Should I root against Penny for that reason, or slowly dump them for other comparable lottery tickets? Oh well.

With regards to 'handcuffing' WRs, which is really a different animal altogether, I'll tend to do draft the guy 'waiting in the wings' as a tie breaker. For example, last year there were two rookies I figured were pretty equal in their draft spots ... so I drafted Chris Godwin in the league where I had Desean Jackson, and Taywan Taylor in the league where I had Rishard Matthews.

ive always thouht it made sense for my contending teams when i have the room. in that situation i have the "high end" guys that im counting on and really just looking for the floor of a backup rb that i wouldnt play unless the starter was out. ive also found that you can win playing a pair from the same team with alot of my teams. you just have to find that combo thats going to get you 20-25 each week at your 2rb setting. (kind of like stacking qb and wr's)

its not a "normal" practice for myself....but there are a lot of well respected guys that i play with that do indeed cuff entire backfields like you mention op. its a legit strategy and quite frankly makes a lot of sense if you are stacked at wr.

I am glad you did not handcuff yourself to just one use of handcuffs.

Knile Davis ruined handcuffs for me. Also there was that one year everyone thought he was the starter when Charles went down, but he was actually behind West AND Ware.
Dynasty player since 2002.
I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

I always stock up on handcuffs, it may clog the roster but those guys can come in very handy. Gio is looking like a great pick up with Mixon down. I also have Buck Allen for Collins. Arguments can be made that those are two more valuable handcuffs than other guys so I should roster them but still. If Gio will help me compete or if I can sell him at some point then that would be nice.
