Narratives most likely to Flip this Season

Postby pvillebiker » Wed Jun 27, 2018 5:10 pm

Ok, one of the things that make FF so awesome is that stuff we expect to happen, very often doesn't. "That's why we play the games!"

What commonly held FF / player narrative do you think will get inverted this upcoming season? Feel free to share 1 or as many as you have conviction for.

Here are two from me.

1. Cooks vs Sammy
Narrative: Brandin Cooks will easily improve on Watkins' production in LA and Watkins will just be an overpaid go route feast-or-famine WR in KC.
Really: Cooks will marginally better Watkins production in LA, but Sammy will be much, much more than a go route guy in KC.

2. Narrative: Blake Bortles is a low end QB and will be lucky to survive the season.
Really: Bortles is a top 10 scoring QB and will be again in 2019.

Come on what do you got?

Narrative: Amari Cooper isn’t the elite WR we thought he was. Struggles with drops, catch point, etc

Reality-Amari Cooper was injured last year and played through it. One of only a handful of WRs to start their career with back to back 1,000 yard seasons and finally healthy he’s primed for a career year

Narrative: Guice will only be a 2 down back because of Thompson.

Reality: Thompson never stays healthy and by mid season he is injured, paving the way for Guice to steam roll as a the second best 3 down back in this rookie class by a large margin. Those gettin cute taking Michel and Rojo at 1.02 weep and cry as they realize their terrible mistake, but it’s too late.

Bonus: Guice rolls up 1,400 all purpose yards and 12 TDs in 2018. In 2019 and 2020 he ups it to 1,500 yards. In 2021 he suffers a terrible injury, retires and becomes a professional Fortnite player.

Narrative: Mike Evans isn’t elite

Reality: He is 1/3 players to start his career with 4 1000+ yard seasons, the other two, Randy Moss and AJ Green. I would say that’s pretty elite.

Narrative: Jerrick McKinnon is a JAG who couldn’t even beat out Matt Asiata or Latavius Murray for a significant snap share in Minnesota.

Reality: McKinnon thrives in Shannahan’s zone read offense and finishes as a top 15 RB in PPR formats and still changes zero minds, as all the non-believers simply brush it off as a one-year anomaly.

Narrative: Amari Cooper is a WR1 in fantasy.

Reality: He’s not even the WR1 for the Raiders.

Narrative: Anyone who misses games in consecutive seasons is “injury prone.”

Reality: Football is a violent game, dummy.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

I might push the plunger on the league but vetoing a trade really isn't an option - josh allen has a better chance to lead the league in comp% .

I guess COD has seen through my obfuscation of how I feel about veto leagues

on topic
narrative - kirk cousins is the vikes real and fantasy savior ....
reality - he crumbles under the huge expectations proving he isn't ready for prime time ....... the vikes regress and all the vikes skill guys disappoint their owners and wreck fantasy hopes.

CC quickly puts on a crash helmet and full body armor to thwart the coming avalanche of purple people eater hate !

CC, no need for armor. I get to witness firsthand the border battles between the Purple People Eater Groupies and the CheeseHead Cheerleaders. At best, you might see a couple grown men temper tantrums. Entertaining stuff nonetheless.. On topic:

Narrative: The RB has returned as the coveted Fantasy Football stud position.

Reality: It was short-lived. DJ, Bell are injured, Elliott beats a teenage boy, SaQuan ends up getting caught with a couple keys of coke. Gurley turns into the 2016 version as the Rams implode under the LA pressure in year 2. Only a few waiver wire satellite backs end up having value.

I've considered all the anti-narrative ideas possible and achievable, but this seems far from.
League #1- 14 tm ppr, 1Q, 2R, 3W, 1T, 1 R/W/T, 1K

League #3- 12 tm PPR, 1Q, 0R (yes, ZERO RB) 3W, 1T, 2 R/W/T flex, 1 Def

Got a good chuckle from the CC veto comment! :-)

Narrative: Cleveland is in position to turn things around.
Reality: It is still the same old Cleveland.

To be honest, I am not sure how many people really believe the Browns have any hope this season.

Narrative: Barkley is a lock to be a top-flight elite RB.

Reality: The speed of the NFL hits Barkley like a ton of bricks as he realizes continually bounces runs to the outside will not work in the NFL. He struggles to finish 2018 as an RB1 - most likely fringe or as an RB2 causing this community to go into a panic because a 21 year old rookie did not explode onto the scene and causing his consensus ranking to drop substantially - leaving those that paid top dollar frustrated as it would have been much easier to acquire him prior to 2019.

This is the one I was going to write about.
