Penny looks very good to me, the guy is clearly dynamic and I think he has pass catching upside.

Carson looks pretty good to me. He is hard to tackle, is very good at churning out yards, and has good vision. He definitely doesn’t have Penny’s big play ability though, but what he does have is the backing of his teammates.

I’m a Carson owner and really want to buy Penny once the season ends just to lock up the backfield. I don’t really have a good handle on how the situation will play out, but there is clearly a lot of potential value in it.

Maddening. He's by far the most explosive back they have, and a big play waiting to happen. Carson is a good hard runner, and deserves touches, but Penny's usage is asinine.
They're winning with Carson, who is more reliable getting the hard 4-5 yards than Penny. When Carson gets 14 or more touches, the Seahawks have gone 7-1 this season. That one loss was to the Rams by 2 points. When Carson gets under 14 touches this season the Seahawks are 1-4.
Pff has Carson as the #9 overall RB in the NFL this season. Rashaad isn't in the top 40. Penny is a great complementary back though.

My fun prodding the Penny owners aside, I think Penny could be a RB1 as soon as next season.

Penny looks like the better RB from an eye test, but Carson isn't going away.

It is maddening. Penny, in very limited exposure, already has like 3 or 4 runs longer than Carson’s longest CAREER rush, which is only 30 yards. And Penny has made those plays in counters where he made the entire play single handedly despite nowhere to go. He is hugely talented. Carson runs hard, and it would be smart for Seattle to keep both, but Penny should be the feature back sooner rather than later.

Carson and Penny need each other. You can easily argue Penny > Carson but Carson gives them the consistent grind they like. Milk the clock, move the chains then hit them with Penny.

They work well together because they're both good backs right now. A rare situation where they're both good starter-level backs.

Great for the 'Hawks' depth, not so great for fantasy. It's two roster spots on a fantasy roller coaster. At RB no less... weeeeeeeeee!!!

But hey, this is why at some point, if you're ok with the wild ride... you trade for Carson, if you drafted Penny... like I did around a month ago. :ewink:

What did you have to trade for Carson? I'm trying to sell him to the Penny owner, but won't give him away.

For the moment, this is working. Carson is a good back, but I Penny's confidence and play are growing, and next year with a full training camp I could see the touches being reversed. I think Carson may still get the goal line carries, no matter what, though. The thing that perplexes me the most is the refusal to throw the ball to Penny, get him out in space as a pass catcher. It makes no sense, especially with their dearth of receiving weapons beyond Lockett.

In real life football people want to win games. The coaching staff, DL, OL, LBs, DBs, QB, WRs, front office, etc etc etc is not playing for the RB to have big stats. The stats are an after product.

Penny has showed CONSISTENTLY that he will get stuffed and have tons of 1 or 2 yard runs. Yes, he is liable to break the big run more than Carson but as a team, 1 yard runs get you 2nd and 9 and 3rd and longs, and get your offense off the field. Ten 1s and 2s and a 50 give way less utility to a team than a ten 4s and a 15 because with those 4s they likely stayed on the field and moved the chains and got points.

Some teams would be better for Penny (NO, DET come to mind), because they have a different offensive system and yes they get their backs in space more often where Seattle likes to grind. They also have better WRs that open up the underneath stuff. Penny is light in the behind and won't be a Seattle feature back. That has been shown at this point as they have clearly shown over the years that they like having a punishing back to grind out runs.

Another thing that is lost in the fantasy madden evaluation is that it is much more unpleasant and tiring to a defense to tackle a back who finishes runs and lays hits than a Penny who just crumbles on contact. Over the course of the game, physical backs wear down defenses and it pays dividends on more than just RB stats.
