Must Haves if you were starting an all Rookie / Devy team (Need Opinions)

Postby NickGB » Tue Jun 12, 2018 11:50 pm

Hello everyone,

I'm trying a fun strategy today / over the course of the next few weeks and would like some input from the board. When I am done here, I will post the results of the team and let you guys see where it stands. As for now though, here's the setup.

Starting Lineup (10 players):

1 QB
1 RB
2 WR
2 TE
1 S-Flex
3 Flex

This means we can start:
1-2 QB
1-5 RB
2-6 WR
2-6 TE

Scoring: QB, WR, TE, RB
Passing:
.04 points per yard
4 points per touchdown
2 point for 2 pt conversion
-1 INT & Fumbles
Rushing:
.1 points per yard
6 points per touchdown
.25 points per carry
2 point for 2 pt conversion
-1 Fumble
Receiving:
.1 points per yard
6 points per touchdown
2 point for 2 pt conversion
1 point per reception
-1 fumble

Now that we've got that portion out of the way, let's dive into the fun part of it. As it stands right now, I have $1400 Rookie / 300 Devy, 2nd place team in funds obtained in these 2 currently has $600 / 100. We currently already sit with Travis Kelce on the roster (Ended up getting him before I decided to make the full run at this - I may try and trade him but only if the value is there (Likely won't happen until this draft completely rounds out, unfortunately.)

So aside from the obvious (Saquon Barkley) - where are you going in this build? Who would be your favorite Rookies / Devy targets? I can't supply my current thoughts here as some people in my league read these forums actively and I don't want to give away my general direction before we begin this, but I would be interested in reading your guys thoughts and how you would approach it, just so that I have other opinions to weigh into aside from my own.

Thanks fellas!

Nick

Interesting concept. I am a little lost as to the funds aspect of it, but as far as targets for rookie/devy players, this is where I would go (in rank)

* - devy plays here for 2019. be forgiving, as I still need to see a solid, healthy year out of most of these guys

1-2 QB
Rosen
Baker
Jackson
Darnold
J. Herbert*
D. Lock*
S. Patterson*
J. Stidham*

1-5 RB
Barkley
Michel
Guice
Chubb
B. Love*
Freeman
Johnson
Hines
M. Webber*
D. Harris*
L.J. Scott*
Ballage
Ito Smith ... are my guys ranked in order, and I know there are several that I left out, but those are not my guys. It's far too early to rank the 19 backs, but these are some of the guys I'm expecting to do very well next year. With that said, next years class is much weaker at the RB position IMO.

2-6 WR
AJ Brown*
N. Henry*
DJ Moore
C. Ridley
C. Kirk
J. Washington
C. Sutton
A. Miller
D. Pettis
A. Richards*
D. Samuel*
D. Hamilton
D. Fountain

Can't say I've done much research about TE, but the only one I would touch from this class is M. Gesiki.

As you can tell by team 2 of my sig, for which the startup was held just a few weeks ago, I am very high on quite a few of these rookie WR's. I think Henry and Brown will dominate all from this class, but that is not to say a JuJu or two is not destined for breakout this year.

Good luck. Interesting concept.

I would be heavily targeting the 2020 Devy RBs. Akers/Swift/Dobbins/Taylor all look to be very good prospects.

The funds are because it's a bankroll league, so you're allotted funds for each draft. In this situation: 1250 Veteran, 200 Rookie, 50 Devy. I have traded my veteran bankroll and turned between 160-175 for the full lots of 200/50 Devy to multiple sellers currently.

Yeah, definitely like this concept. However, I need to make sure I secure some of the 2019 WR's as well as that class is gold!

I am also a newbie and I read a lot of websites about how to play and I found this one super informative: https://dailyfantasysportssites.net/ But I also signed in here to keep track of the latest news and I think that I am really starting to gain confidence. Wish me luck. Btw thank for the tip, man - really appreciate it.

Is it possible to trade some of your rookie funds for devy funds? If so, I would restructure my budget and:

Rookie: I am not a fan of this classes depth, but top end QB/RB is a strength. I would bet big on Barkley, 1-2 of the rookie QBs you like, 1-2 of the other top RBs, and then cash out to spend/bet my funds on another class.

Devy: Look to take what the classes are going to give us. Grab a few WRs from the 2019 class and as many of the 2020 RBs as you can.

Ultimately, I'd target a 2020-2021 widow of competing and build my roster around (with a 2019-2020 option if you're able to flip some of the assets early to compete):

2018: Saquon Barkley, Quarterbacks, Running Backs
2019: Wide Receivers
2020: Running Backs

QB: (2018 QB) Baker Mayfield
QB: [Insert second favorite rookie QB/best value rookie QB, or trade for good young QB]
RB: Saquon Barkley
WR: (2019 WR) AJ Brown
WR: (2019 WR) Harry K'Neal
TE: Travis Kelce
TE: [Trade for 2017 TEs because they're now good value plays]
FL: (2020 RB) Cam Akers
FL: (2020 RB) DeAndre Swift
FL: (2018 RB) Nick Chubb - Rashaad Penny

At WORST, you set yourself up to have a ton of roster/trade value to work with because this will be the cheapest you get Akers/Swift/AJBrown etc. Some of them have the potential to be elite prospects and their values will rise once the dynasty focus shifts to their classes once they declare.

Then on top of that, depending on how your rookie draft/funds work, you will be in position to add the 1.01 value equivalent this time next year as well, so you can get another potentially elite rookie prospect that slips through the devy crack.

Nice catch. Almost left him out.

As far as the bankroll concept by the OP, I absolutely love it. I am starting a startup dynasty league, and will consider incorporating that concept.
