2019 vs. 2020 drafts

Postby moishetreats » Sun May 27, 2018 8:32 am

(If there is a thread about this elsewhere, then please let me know -- I searched but couldn't find one.)

A couple of guys in one of my dynasty leagues have been selling off 2019 picks for 2020 picks. I don't follow college football or devy leagues, so I am not at all aware of or up-to-date on future potential drafts.

Any thoughts on the 2019 vs. 2020 upcoming rookie drafts? Any particular reason to be looking to hoard 2020 picks, potentially at the cost of 2019 picks?

2019 is allegedly stacked at WR, the 2020 class is already stacked at RB, there are 3 (4?) true work horse 3 down RB level guys (Cam akers, Johnathan Taylor, JK Dobbins, DeAndre Smith) and there is still time for guys to breakout in their sophomore year and Junior year as well.

So much can happen in 2 years. I definitely would not recommend selling 2019 picks for 2020 picks. Predicting 2 years out is very difficult.

2020 is rb Mecca. Rivals 2017 class.

As you should know by now rbs win leagues not WRs. It’s why rbs have been dominating first round of redraft leagues forever until that one year everyone freaked out and then they rightfully got burned in 2016. so that’s why people are doing it.

Probably people who play Devy and are just building around what they hope 2020 will be.

Who knows though. It's always rough planning that far ahead in dynasty.

2020 is too far off to judge, especially regarding RBs. Promising underclassmen commonly turn into grinders as upperclassmen. Sometimes because of injury, sometimes because they just finish physically growing and their burst and speed diminish with the new weight. For example, I was much more impressed with Royce Freeman as a sophomore than as a senior.

Are they getting some sort of bump in value for pushing their picks out a year? For example trading a '19 1st, for a '20 1st & 3rd?

Agreed. I've seen those sort of moves. An owner taking on a long rebuild, and stockpiling for a specific year in the future.

the 2020 rb class could very well be the best running back draft class of all time

Te: TJ Hockensen, Gesicki, Hurst

1 2020 first, 1 2020 2nd, 1 2020 3rd, 1 2020 4th

Devy superflex

Rb: Marlon Mack, Tevin Coleman, Rex Burkhead,, Mcguire, Edwards
Wr: Antonio Brown, Amari Cooper, Kenny Golladay, Will Fuller, Tre'quan Smith, John Brown, Carlos Henderson, Josh Malone, Ryan Switzer, Taywan Taylor, Leonte Carroo, Antonio Callaway
Te: David Njoku, O.J. Howard, Mark Andrews,

Yeah, they should.
Minimal. In one trade, an owner traded a 2019 1st and Doctson to another owner for a 2020 1st. The owner who traded away his 2019 first finished in last place in 2017, and I doubt highly that he'll sniff the playoffs this year.

Another owner made an offer of a 2nd in 2019 and a 3rd in 2020 for a player. He was counted with a 2nd and a 3rd in 2020, with the original owner asking for a 4th for waiting the year.

Both of those owners later revealed that they would rather have the picks in 2020 (clearly in the case of the first trade). It just got me wondering...

Thanks y'all for the replies. It sounds like 2020 is being considered a weighty one for RBs, but we should approach with caution because lots can change in two years.

Thanks again!
