Startup Draft Early-Mid Round Value

Postby fraction » Fri May 25, 2018 5:43 am

Hi all,

This is my first dynasty league. It's a 12 team, 1QB, 0.5 PPR (1 PPR for TE), league. 35 man rosters with 2 mandatory RB & WR slots and 3 WR/RB/TE flex spots

I'm sitting at the top of the 6th round with: WR Michael Thomas, JuJu and RB Hunt, Guice, Ajayi

Looking to add WR depth, most likely, though I am open to suggestions otherwise. The current receivers I'm looking at are: Golden Tate, Demaryius Thomas, Devin Funchess, Cooper Kupp, Marvin Jones, Courtland Sutton, Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, Mike Williams DeVante Parker, and Robert Woods. In general, I'd like both youth and the ability to slot them in the roster for day one, but none of these folks fit that bill, it seems like it's one of the other.

Side question: When should I be looking to grab a TE in a league like this? Kelce, Gronk, Engram, Ertz, Henry are gone.

Thanks!

funchess fits what you want. Kirk also fits what you want. arizona is completely depleted at wr and larry fitz is 34.

cooper kupp is young and usable as well. but i think his ceiling is limited

as for TE i would take one of howard or njoku pretty soon. if you miss on them try for burton/reed/doyle i think thats my next teir of high upside but not too old guys.

I’d probably go Tate or Ridley just depends how competitive you want to be this year vs youth but I personally would go Ridley. I am way higher on him than most and I think he produces WR3 numbers this year pretty easily, he may never be a WR1 but he will be a consistent WR2 for his career

Draft for talent, trade for need.

In my last startup draft, I had 12 RBs, 6 WRs, 1 QB and no TEs. My team was voted "worst team." I then traded away my excess and got my starters.

I ended with Brady, Zeke, Bell, DJ, Diggs, & Kelce. I went on to be best team going into the playoffs..... and lost in the 1st round lol. But still I had a great roster and still do 3 years later. All because I drafted talent over need.

So until you tell us who else is available in ALL positions, I cannot answer this.

I appreciate the comments, and have been attempting to draft for long-term talent/opportunity. Thought that posting everyone available might be a little unwieldy, and I had evaluated that other than a couple TE's, the talent to be had was at the WR position.

I would take DT or maybe Tate. You have good young assets already so you can take some older productive guys and be in a solid position to make a run at the title. Take someone you are pretty sure is going to be a starter for you would be my advice.
The middle rounds are where leagues are won and lost with flex starters and top bench options because anything can happen

I'd grab Howard -- and without too much thought. And I wouldn't shy away from another elite TE with the next pick. Once your starters are set (as they are), then you'll be starting the players who are likely to score the most points. Top-end TEs fit the bill in those flex spots. There are some WRs there that I like, too, but I think that the TEs would be more valuable over the long-term.
