Recently the US Supreme Court ruled to allow sports gambling. I haven't seen any discussion on here regarding what is a really fundamental shift in US sports. Team values, player salaries, advertising dollars and a whole bunch of other things will take a tremendous jump in the coming years.

How will all of this affect fantasy football and dynasty in particular?

Have you wagered in the past and will the availability of smart phone betting platforms make you bet more/again.

The DFS sites aren't going to lose money on this because they were the top lobbyists and already are in a position to rollout their own sportsbooks with established clientele right out the gate and get a jump on the market.

DK/Fanduel commercials gonna be out of control again this fall I predict.

But that being said, if the casual fan decides he'd rather wager on games than spend all that time researching DFS plays and losing every night to Sharks with 150 lineup variations, it could severely diminish DFS imo. The Sharks will only stick around if it's profitable enough and if they leave, that's a wrap.


As for me personally sports betting, I got really into it a few years ago with not much success lol. It was pretty much a phase I was in at the time I guess. I bet really light, a unit for me would only be like $15-$20, I'm not exactly well off, but even now I'll casually go on Bovada every now and then and if I see something interesting I might throw a bet on it.

I'll probably bet a little more in the short term when it's all rolled out, but fall back into really casual mode again when the initial excitement wears off.


I think for people who had a want to bet on Sports, there were always options readily available. Just now you'll have to jump through less hoops and it will be a lot more convenient to setup accounts and receive payouts and such. No more taking sketchy canadian checks to your bank and making up stuff when the teller asks questions lol.

All I know is at the end of the day, Bankruptcy lawyers are licking their chops.

I have been using bookies and off-shore for years. There is a money gram kiosk down the street to withdraw my money from Nicaragua that makes it seemless. Now, i just will be able to feel like a little less of a degenerate. Though, I think the tree huggers in my state will delay it as long as possible. I think Wisconsin will get it and that is a minute and a half drive. DFS lost their luster for me too, for the most part, a long time ago. I only play when i feel like throwing the afformentioned 150 entries into the lottery drawing. There will definitely be a lot more talk of scandals and games rigged.

The bolded is what I'm expecting the outcome to be. Money spent on DFS will drop as wagers on games rise.

The bleep commercials are going to make the games unwatchable

The DFS companies will expand to incorporate betting lines I’m sure.

I use Bovada here and there, and I only ever played DFS cash games casually, but that rate will probably go down to near zero. I'd rather throw $10 on a Todd Gurley over 85.5 rushing yards wager if I expect a big game from him than spend an hour building a cash lineup with Gurley. I'll probably still do the DFS tournaments though, as that's basically a long-shot parlay to begin with and is more luck than skill.

Just to clarify, this decision didn't repeal the Federal Wire Act or the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, so interstate betting is still illegal federally. This will allow states to make sports betting legal within the state borders, so long as you don't use a credit card or bank transfer. I don't know how many states are likely to enact this but I'm guessing it will be only a few at first. And I don't expect it to make internet gambling legal again.

Fan Duel claimed they weren’t gambling - they were games of skill. It will be interesting to see how they brand themselves now.
