Battle of the Rookie 2-10 spots

Postby spotxc » Wed May 16, 2018 11:56 am

Seems there is more variation of the order of selections than normal for rookie drafts.

Make your opening statement or argument why your certain rookie order is a force to be reckoned with and why you think it is best for success. Don't hesitate to really open up and share your true opinions, not just what you see or hear

Ill start, once again these are my valuations so u may disagree but this how I see it

2. Sony Michel- Very versatile Rb that can run, catch, pass protect and take it to the house on any play. Very good vision and quick agility with combination of strength and solid speed. Very fast first step and initial burst. Great contact balance also. Will be on arguably most powerful offense that invested a 1st round pick on him and knows how to get the most from their players

3 Guice- Beast of a runner who can take contact and continue to move piles and pick up additional yards. Very quick and agile for a runner who can dish out that type of punishment and finish runs. Solid vision and underrated receiving chops. Lands on a team that has lacked a power running game and a true workhorse for some time now. Concerns over a drop in draft and maturity, but still being a 2nd round pick in a good landing spot to take over lead duties is still solid. Plus, previous coaches have come out to support him and his character which helps alleviate some of those concerns. Washington seems like they need to rely on a strong running game with new non-gunslinger signal caller in town and not the strong passing game they once had

Now come the tough choices for me

4.Chubb- Powerhouse build, that has sufficient burst and good long speed. Very thick and strong lower body and upper body. Can take the punishment of shouldering the load. Has good vision and burst to hit the hole, however hesitates or has too much patience sometimes that leaves yards on the field. Seems like could be a competent pass catcher if given the opportunity. Could continue to heal and return to even closer pre injury form and improve his already positive attributes. Todd Haley and up and coming Browns team liked him a lot and invested significant draft capital which gives promise. However crowded backfield and being the browns throws worry into the mix.

5. Ronald Jones - Decisive north south runner who can stick his foot in the ground and take off. Is agile enough to go side to side but not a particular strength that he uses. Has the start stop ability though to put jukes on defenders. Burst combined with decisiveness leads to long chunk gains. Don't exactly think he's speed is elite though which I see people say. Undersized and lack of proven passing game chops give concern. Runs a lot tougher and with more balance than a guy his size usually does though. Tampa Bay is a good team with lots of offensive firepower that could lead to him exploding if he proves he can produce at the nfl level.

6. Calvin Ridley- Route running specialist who beats power and disruption with technique and quickness. Seems to be always be able to get a step or more on defenders and is very explosive in his routes that makes it hard for defenders to contain him. Has the extra gear and shiftiness to juke and take it to the house also. Lean frame leads to worry and hand strength imo. When he gets into contested catch situations, he's aggressive to get the ball and does a good job, but his hand strength lets him down when trying to hold onto the ball throughout contact in catching. Lands in great situation imo, Very good signal caller who can exploit his strengths and play to them. Has a beast of a specimen to take coverage away from him to let him do what he does best which is timing routes no matter if they are slants or deep routes. I really could see him being a slightly poor mans marvin harrison.

7. Rashaad Penny - Think down hill back who has sufficient burst and long speed to play with the big boys. Very subtle cuts and agility when getting north and south that show ability to make defenders miss. Has some power but seems like he had it a little easy with weak tackles a lot in his playing time. Seems like he goes down somewhat easy when the contact is in his face. Viable pass catcher who looks the part to make those grabs he needs to. Pass pro could use work. Lands in Seattle where the o-line has been very tough to runners lately. Looks like he should get the keys to backfield, but worry that o-line combined with him adjusting from a small school conference to the nfl might hit him too hard and make it very rough on him to gain confidence and momentum. However, if he does, watch out!

8. DJ Moore- Very athletic with great burst and long speed. Run after the catch ability is great with the body to be able to handle contact and fight through it also. Route running is subpar when dealing with man coverage or a guy pressing him. Has trouble getting open in those situations. If able to refine his routes and technique to get open with press or man, could become a dominant force on a team that needs a true #1 and has offensive fire power. Has draft capital and will be given every opportunity to become that guy. Has the tools, but will needs to make significant improvement in that area imo to reach that

9. Freeman- Very compact big back that provides adequate burst, agility and long speed to be a force in the right scheme. Has shown the ability to carry the load and be a 3 down back. Speed combined with his weight and strength will make it hard on defenders, however if had the ability to really be a strong tackle breaker, he'd be much better. Seems like he could use his size better I would say given his abilities and weight. Denver has the backfield that is open to the taking, but for some reason they seem to really like booker so it seems they will give booker ample opportunity to compete for the majority of touches and at worst have a serviceable role there.

10 Kerryon- Very fluid runner with great vision and patience to make plays. Lacks burst after first step and the long speed to make significant chunk plays in the nfl imo. Very lean frame that looks like it will have trouble holding up. If he was thicker, and had a little better speed, I think we'd be talking about him being in top 5 if not top 3. Did produce at a high level in toughest conference in football so there is disputing evidence that he will have trouble in nfl. Very smart and knowledgable runner and receiver who could very well surpass expectations. Detroit needs a do it all runner they can rely on and they moved up and invested significant draft capital in Kerryon believing he can do that. Days go by where I think he's a top 5 back and then days where I don't want to invest in him because he looks too slow and lean. Patience and ability to act at the right time are elite imo

I feel like DJ Moore was held a lot and that's why he struggled to get open. Like any time he didn't get open it's b/c the defender had a fistful of his jersey or something.

I see he did struggle with physical corners so maybe being held was part of it. He should see a lot of that type of coverage in the nfl though. Hold or not.

Would love to get others opinions on their ranks and why

The Ridley hate blows my mind, Kirk is being drafted before him?

Barkley
Guice - Love the way this dude runs, haven’t seen someone run with such anger coming out of college, dominated the SEC and looked better than LF when they both were there.
RoJo - Love his film, another guy that seems to be falling because of some questions at the combine like Ridley. Dude is a home run threat every play and if he puts just some time into his catching ability I can see a lot of Jamaal Charles in him.
Ridley - Turn on the film and tell me he doesn’t have some of the smoothest routes you have seen, not only in college but including the pros. His stats were actually pretty damn great with the offense Alabama runs and the QB play. Probably my favorite landing spot out of all the rookies, will see single coverage all day and will slide in the slot occasionally, no Nickel/Safety has a chance at covering this guy.

This is where it gets dicey for me.

Penny - Simply because of draft capital and he will get a ton of touches but I’m not sold on his talent and would be looking to sell high immediately

Michel - Wasn’t sold on his tape and his combine didn’t do any justice but he did go in the 1st to the Pats so who knows.

Chubb - Injuries are a little concerning for me but showed explosion at the combine more than his film but you can’t hide the fact he will be splitting carries with Hyde/Duke who both are talented in there own right.

Freeman - Like the landing spot, not completely sold on his talent, looks very similiar to Booker in my eyes but he will get the opportunity.

Moore - Writing this I think I would put him higher just cause I’m not sold at the other two before him but I’m also not sold on Cam throwing a football. I think Moore has a lot to still develop to be productive but he has a nice ceiling.

Sutton/Johnson - Strictly depends on my team needs, I like Sutton’s talent more and upside but who knows when he will see the field. Johnson has the opportunity to succeed but I’m not completely sold he will.

Kirk - Mehhhh just not my type, don’t see a very high ceiling whatsoever I would be looking to trade this pick ideally.
