Maybe not, but he's much more explosive than Guice, and has much better vision/patience IMO, too.ninotoreS wrote: ↑Thu May 10, 2018 12:20 am Seattle's run-blocking is a dumpster fire (31st in '17 and 26th in '16 in Adjusted Line Yards) that the front-office again made no effort at all to address this offseason, but my primary concern with Penny is that his tape isn't actually as impressive as his (fresh) hype and stats. Even his much ballyhooed yards-after-contact stat appears to be a mirage when you actually look at the long runs which inflated that metric for him. Make no mistake, Penny is not the same caliber of tackle breaker as Chubb and Guice.
I liked Penny a lot more when I thought he would be a sleeper I could acquire without a premium pick.
Thoughts on Rashaad Penny?

Whoa more explosive than Guice? Not a chance. Even against sub par competition Penny looks less explosive than Guice. I do like his vision and patience though.

Fluker is bad PASS BLOCKING o-lineman. He's actually a GREAT run blocking o-lineman. Fwiw..tresskid84 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 7:14 pmTime will tell. I hope you're right, because I'm a fan of Russell Wilson's and like Penny a lot, but there are way more question marks on that oline than players known to be even average blockers. Duane Brown is their only above average lineman and injuries are starting to rack up for him, Jamarco Jones might be decent but going in the 5th makes me skeptical , Fluker hasn't been a good (or even average) lineman in 3 years, Justin Britt is average/below average at center, Joeckel is terrible, Ifedi is a huge bust, and Pocic looks on his way to being a bust as well (granted its only been a year for him and the second year is often a big improvement year). However, the point remains, they basically need tremendous improvement across their line to even get to average (Solari does have a good rep, so maybe he does improve the line, but A LOT of improvement is needed).Bot101 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 2:45 pmYep and fired that turd Cable. And they've got a new line coach in Solari who's done pretty well in his stops around the league. It will be a different look and scheme on the o-line this year and whether or not it's an improvement remains to be seen. But the narrative of "Their line sucked last year, so it will suck this year," is just lazy. As pointed out, the front office has made an effort to shake-up the O-line. And improve their overall run blocking downfield as well.
The previous post referring to Ed Dickson as the best blocking tight end is way off base. Dickson is an ok pass blocker, but he has historically been an awful run blocker (I'd agree on the Dissly point though, he probably is the best blocker at tight end from the draft).

I strongly disagree with this. He once was a good/great run blocker. The last 3 years, if I'm being generous, he has been average, in the run game. 17th out of 76 qualified in run blocking. So hes actually pretty good. But awful in pass pro.
Re: Wow, Penny to the Seahawks
Why did the owner jump from 1.04 to 1.02?
So he could Rashaad and grab a Penny.

Re: Wow, Penny to the Seahawks
On a more serious note after 14 1 QB drafts - the furthest he has fallen is to 1.05 and his ADP is basically 4. So if you like shiny Penny then you better make sure you have a top 4 pick.

Re: Wow, Penny to the Seahawks
In 2017, he did grade better, but in 2016 his run blocking was 66th out of 77 qualified guards. In 2015, he was 56th out of 82. 2014, he was better, at 33rd out of 84 tackles. Taking the larger sample size, he is a pretty average run blocker.Bot101 wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 7:07 pmhttps://mobile.twitter.com/guga31bb/sta ... 36?lang=entresskid84 wrote: ↑Fri May 18, 2018 6:46 pmI strongly disagree with this. Re: Wow, Penny to the Seahawks
It'd be interesting to find out if the reason he graded out so much better was real improvement in his skills or technique, or if it was due to the scheme. Also would be interesting to compare his passblock rating over that time to see if there was a commensurate improvement there.tresskid84 wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 6:51 amIn 2017, he did grade better, but in 2016 his run blocking was 66th out of 77 qualified guards. Re: Wow, Penny to the Seahawks
So with this Seattle oline being up in the air as any good and questions about how much Seattle is actually going to roll him out there, definitely excited to see how Penny does in Seattle this year.
Gave up a lot (2019 1st+) to grab him to pair with Guice, so I hope these two guys get the rock... a lot!
Could they even be great without a lot of 3rd down snaps? That's my biggest question.

Unless that + was something special, a random 2019 1st really isn't all that much for a consensus top 4 pick this year

Same guy who was critical of the Seahawks drafting Penny in the 1st uploaded another video praising the Dissly pick. He should help the run game quite a bit.
