Willie Snead Offer Sheet

Postby tresskid84 » Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:13 am

Snead signed an offer sheet with the Ravens today . . . to me, this was the worst possible spot for him in terms of fantasy (I have held him a few places and now I'm regretting it, lol). What does anyone else think? Assuming the saints don't match, does your interest level in Snead change after this, either positive or negative?

Exactly. I didn't like him with the Saints and Drew Brees, can't imagine his value goes up with Joe Flacco. Particularly since the Ravens already signed Crabtree and John Brown. I like what the Ravens are doing with their receiving corps in general since no one has been relevant on the Ravens in that capacity for a long time...but this is a better NFL move than fantasy one.

His only chance, IMO, is Crabtree falling off. He could then be fantasy relevant just based on volume. I think we can all agree it's unlikely John Brown lasts 16 games. If he does though, he's better than Snead. 3rd in the pecking order on the Ravens is not exciting. There is 0% chance Flacco makes multiple WR's fantasy relevant all year long. Maybe he has a nice stretch.

Not excited. Not much to be excited about. It is a lateral move from a disappointing level of involvement to a downgrade in offensive scheme and qb talent. At best he is a depth guy that you may need to plug in if you get ravaged by injury during bye week times. He still has big game upside but, I sure wouldn't want to bet on his consistency. I don't think he is cuttable in large roster leagues but if you have shallow benches, he is ww fodder. In short; Meh.

Wasn't that long ago ppl wanted rd 1 for him after his week 1 explosion.

I turned down a late first last year for him :wall:

At least he’s getting paid well might mean Baltimore wants to use him. I’ll be holding benches are deep enough.

Yikes. "Know when to hold emmmm, know when to fold emmmm"

I have had an admiration for Snead for years, but when you really stop to watch him on the field, he has good hands, good routes, but separation and average athleticism hold him way back.

To answer the original question, I don't see any reason how the Ravens will use him more effectively than the Saints did, in turn making him even less valuable than 4 hours ago.

I'm in the same place. Where he landed was going to be vital for me, and he landed in one of the worst possible spots. He did get low-end starting wr money, so he will likely be playing a lot, but not a great fit and really kills any interest I had left

I have 1 league where I picked him off waiver wires last year for free.

I also have Jon Brown on that team.

I kind of like the move as I can hold both of them on my bench and see who “emerges” in training camp and preseason. Then I can drop 1 of them to add my kicker right before week 1

Well, if your talking his involvement last year with the Saints, then, Baltimore would just have to A. put Snead on the field, and B. Throw him the ball a few times. That, in itself would be using him more effectively than the Saints did last year. A couple years ago, Snead was utilized by Brees and if that is what your talking about, I agree, I see no way that Baltimore uses him that much. His ceiling is lower but, I would think his floor was as low as we'll see it last year.

Judging by the reaction here, I'll be pretty happy to buy on the cheap.

There are alot of vacated targets available in Baltimore (all of them) so I think there's some value to be had here. Baltimore was 11th in pass attempts last year as well with 567.

We know the passing game stinks, but we're only a year removed from Dennis Pitta catching 86 balls in this offense so it's not a complete wasteland. If Snead works mainly from the slot there's plenty of short-intermediate targets to be had without any semblance of a professional TE on the roster. I also don't think Crabtree is the type of receiver to command 120-130 targets anymore so Flacco could certainly spread it around quite a bit. John Brown is a "let's see if he's healthy guy" so I'm not comfortable projecting any sort of target share on him.

To me, Snead is talented enough to at least stash and see how the target share shakes out in Baltimore just due to the depth chart in front of him.

i still like him and dont understand his 2017, i think that was a freaking wild scenario and i still to this day cant make sense of why he went from a guy on the cusp of 1000 yards to a guy who saw the field so little it made me wanna own brandon coleman instead

i wont be cutting him anywhere, unless its week 5 and he still has yet to show up at all, then ill be done with him.

also he was offered more money than meredith so anyone who has hope for meredith should have hope for snead....how moncreif got more than both is a mystery still haha
