I’m not sure exactly how to define “it”, but this kid has “it”. Pure electric. I just worry that if they try to use him as an “offensive weapon” instead of a 3rd down RB it may have a negative fantasy effect. Manufacturing touches never seems to work out well, just hand it off or throw it to him outta the backfield. Don’t think he can handle a full 3 down load obviously, but even in a committee I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him as a top 15 RB.

Tarik Cohen a gadget player?

Postby BigBawseRoss » Thu Jul 12, 2018 11:50 am

I actually like cohen and think he could get more usage with Nagy in town and getting him touches in space and a handful of carries each game. seems like a super popular trend around here is to label him a gadget player, too small, no long term value, etc.

I wanted to post this link to this exact same thread from last offseason, however the topic was "Tyreek Hill" and about half the posts were people claiming he would not be a #1 WR and that he was a "gadget" player... those who were singing that tune prob wished they were not so dismissive or wish they hadnt sold him off so quickly. I'm using this to caution people about Cohen and being dismissive of his ability and potential role growth.

He has the upside of Darren Sproles in New Orleans.

It would take a deliberate focus by Chicago to give him those touches, but they don't have a ton of other playmakers to feed either. Just Allen Robinson, Jordan Howard, maybe Trey Burton, Taylor Gabriel or Anthony Miller.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

Yes. Gadget player. I don't think his upside is Sproles either, it's less. This isn't the same skill level of QB/offense.

Making him the “focus” would be counter-productive. He can be successful and useful for fantasy if they are creative with him. Nagy is the one who can do that. He will make use of all of the offensive weapons. From week-to-week we will see some curve balls and change-ups but all of them should have a decent floor, including Cohen.

He's as much like Tyreek Hill as he is like Julio... Nagy should be increasing Howard's role and use Cohen only sparingly.

I keep hearing in pods that Nagy was asked during the interview process, how he would use Cohen, to which he replied similar to how we used Tyreek Hill ..

I think he's a guy if you were able to get him free/cheap he's worth hanging onto and can really help you during byes, injuries, etc.. I would not be trading capital for him, or hoping he'd be a set and forget him kind of guy, I just don't see it ..

Tarik Cohen is the type to have a good chance of proving a lot of people wrong.

Meh, the odds of another tyfreak working out is very low. I own Cohen and have high hopes of him bring a flex/bye help but for him to become tyfreak is dreaming in my opinion. I'm rooting for him but I'm not holding out too much hope

The closest thing about Cohen and Hill are their first names.
