Peyton Hillis 2010?

Postby PurplePenguin » Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:54 am

If this is the wrong forum for this type of question, please forgive me.

I was doing some random thinking earlier and remembered the name Peyton Hillis. His big 2010 season came 3-4 years before I jumped into the dynasty format. I remember in my redraft league that year, my first or second round pick went down with an injury very early (maybe it was Ryan Grant from GB?). I scooped Hillis off the waiver and he ended up leading me to a championship that season.

That got me thinking, what was the overall view on him in the dynasty community around this time? Were people calling it a fluke? Were people going all in that offseason?

Didn't he fall victim to the Madden curse?

I just looked back at the ADP data for 2010 ( http://mizelle.net/mfl/2010/ )...

He was drafted in 2 of the 6 startup drafts I have data for.
Overall: 324
RB:99
Avg: 294.50
Min: 259
Max: 330
Pick numbers: 259, 330

Wasn't he a FB originally ala Mike Alstott ? I would have sold automatically after his 2010 season for everything i could get. Not the typic back you see.

I still have the PS3 Madden 2012 haha. One of the best with the 2004 starring Mike Vick !

My question was more so, what was the communities feelings AFTER that one hit wonder season. But, looking at your site and data for 2011, it seems as if his ADP was around 25 overall.

Interestingly enough, that has him higher ranked than Mark Ingram who was Rookie 1. So technically it could be said that based on some ADPs, he was worth the 1.01 in the 2011 draft.

AJ Green and Julio were 1.01 and 1.02 that year.

I think that's fair to say.

I was basing it off of Miz ADP list, which had Ingram followed by Julio and AJ. I wasn't around then, so I was just going off the one ADP I had in front of me.

I wasn't playing dynasty then, but I did play in my very first fantasy football league the year AFTER his big season. It was a redraft money league, and I took him with my 2nd round pick. I didn't have a very good year...

the albino rhino ? he won me a few titles (all redraft except 1 multi keeper league) in 2010 as I saw him in preseason game and the browns announcers were raving about him shining in camp - stashed him and reaped huge rewards. Seemed like a flash in the pan so I moved him the following year . Complete luck with my timing getting in and getting out ! Always will hold a fond place in my dynasty heart.

Yeah I picked this guy up in preseason as well and I was sure glad I had. He didn’t make the Madden cover for no reason. The following season in an auction league in which he was a free agent (waiver claims are assigned 1-year contracts), I think I took him at 1.4...and those cheap contract picks are something you really don’t want to blow. Lesson learned. Don’t ever bet long-term on fullback types.

Remember Michael Bush? Louisville I think. I always thought him and Hillis were sort of similar. Bush had a bad leg injury though and lost all his agility if I remember correctly, so he was probably a vastly superior prospect before the injury. Heck, Hillis was the fullback for McFadden and Felix Jones...and possibly helped more championship squads than those to combined. Funny

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for this guy. He carried me to a redraft championship that year.
