Cowboys have officially parted ways with Dez Bryant

Postby xlur8ed » Fri Apr 13, 2018 9:14 am

Shefty reporting: "barring an unexpected last minute change of heart....but the plan going into meeting that is now underway was to part ways with Bryant...."

Edit: Officially now an unrestricted free agent.

Wow. I honestly don't know whether to buy or sell Dez in dynasty prior to knowing his landing spot.

If that ends up being the case, that’s really surprising to me. I would’ve bet that they would settle on a restructured contract.

GOOD!!!! Dak isn't the qb I want throwing balls to Dez. The problem with Dez's production was quite obviously not on Dez. He will rebound and I hope he goes to SF.

As a Cowboys fan, I dont know how I feel about this. I both like and dislike it. Putting the blame primarily on Dez is a mistake. But he was definitely part of the problem. I think this solidifies Cowboys taking a WR in rnd 1. Please dont be Ridley.

This has to boost the value of Allen Hurns doesn't it? Even if they grab a first round WR, seems like Hurns will be in for more targets than anticipated.

TE: T. Kelce, C. Kmet, H. Henry, M. Gesicki

2024 Picks: 4.9

12 Team .5 PPR, 6pt TDs

Best landing spots / fits off the top of my head (ignoring cap space):

SEA could use him. Wilson needs weapons with that defense dismantled, and they lost a big red-zone target with Jimmy Graham leaving.

HOU would be a great fit too. Their defense is pretty solid, so give Watson Hopkins on one side, Fuller running verts on the other, and plop Dez in the slot. That'd be a nightmare for opposing secondaries to deal with, and he wouldn't need to move far geographically.

CAR would be nice with Cam's tendency to overthrow his receivers and tossing up 50/50 balls. Imagine defending against Dez on the goal line while also worrying about Cam running it or dumping it to McCaffrey.

MIN cause why not? There's not much to improve on defense, so why not offer Dez a one-year deal and a shot at a title?

Meh, the Cowboy offense probably won't be all that different than the Jags in terms of WR1 value...both offenses run thru the RB

That was my immediate thought as well. Worth it to throw out a 3rd for Hurns simply for speculation. NTM even if they draft a rookie in the first, they might not make an impact. Hurns could be the pseudo #1 for next season, while the rookie gets up to speed. Even if the offense runs thru the RB, having a number one option is always nice to have - esp for bye weeks etc.

He can't beat coverage to save his life so an accurate QB that can throw him open with back shoulder throws and fit it into tight windows would be just what the doctor ordered for him.

That said, not sure if it makes sense for the Packers. They already have two big time RZ weapons in Adams and Graham and Dez's skillset at this point is basically a poor man's Davante Adams. I think they'd be better served getting someone that can stretch the field.

As a lifelong Cowboys fan that has literally watched every snap that Dez has taken, it kinda sucks, I don’t even want to think of where he may play next season, hopefully not in the NFC East. I still think he has plenty to offer a team and honestly I didnt think this would happen until maybe next offseason, I thought for sure they would restructure. Anyway, from a fantasy standpoint, I think there’s a decent chance this helps Dez to possibly go to a team more compatible for him. From a Cowboys standpoint, Zeke is going to get the ball a ton, the Cowboys have made some nice under the radar improvements to the o-line, signing C.Fleming to either start at RT or be the swing tackle and signed Marcus Martin as nice depth on the interior of the line. I won’t be surprised at all if Zeke is the RB1 overall this upcoming season.
