I would rather take the risk with Tread than a future 3rd round pick (if it's possible to get him for that).

The likelyhood of hitting with a 3rd round pick is next to nothing, about the same chance Tread will be relevant, but then at least have the draft pedigre to hang my hat on.

On a more serious note than comparing types of lint, I like the concept of buying Treadwell- highly rated prospect who was drafted 1st round in the NFL. However, he tested poorly at the Combine.

Since we have so few NFL snaps to examine, it comes down to college film study vs metrics, to me. That debate is well worn.

If the cost is truly a 3rd, what players have his upside (perceived or actual) in that price range? It seems 2easy to dismiss Treadwell as a buy, but harder when considering alternatives in that value range.

Treadwell (still) running with the 1s at the opening of training camp. Guess we shall soon see if this continues ...

It's really not. Most classes, there's rough gems in the 3rd round of 12-team leagues. Say, three or four players out of the twelve selections turn out to be desirable assets for at least some interval of time. That's, what, 25-35% odds? A lot better than 'next to nothing'.

I got several guys on my board this year going in the 3rd-4th range in ADP that I'd rather have rostered than Treadwell.

This isn't really newsworthy though. Minnesota's WR's after Diggs and Thielen aren't good. So, by default he should be their 3rd best WR. It wouldn't lead to a fantasy relevant role though with Rudolph and Cook in the mix.

It is true that he may not receive a ton of targets as the #3 receiver (barring injuries which happen all the time). But, there is more competition than you are giving him credit for. Kendall Wright, Brandon Zylstra, Stacy Coley are a solid core. Then you have veteran Tavarres King and special teams weapon Jeff Badet. Solid depth.

I'm not the best barometer, but I've only heard of 2 of those 5, and I didn't realize either of them were still on a team.

Kendall Wright had a solid PFF grade last year, Brandon Zylstra is a CFL superstar making the jump to the NFL this year. I agree the other names are probably no-counts.

I think Wright and Zylstra are both threats to Treadwell's depth-chart spot. Wright's had a slow offseason so far, but Zylstra's looked good, and like Treadwell himself, Zylstra's physical profile complements Thielen and Diggs.

Plus he was born in Minnesota so he will have hometown appeal as well as underdog / out of nowhere story narrative. 8-)
