news on CJA has been relatively quiet...

Postby hjernazian » Tue Apr 03, 2018 1:01 pm

Have been very surprised by this. I fully expected him to be cut to save the 5 million against the cap, or to be traded. Bronco's are cap strapped for the near future, and I thought this news would be a bit of a no brainer. As a Denver fan, I've actually been a fan of CJA throughout the years, and feel he gets a bad rap due to recency bias of the post-Peyton era where he was very much game script dependent. During the Peyton era, he played exceptionally well, and even post, he quietly put up 1,000+ rushing last season. With less effective backs like I. Crowell moving amongst others, I was surprised Denver didn't move him. Could it maybe be a draft day trade? Do we anticipate Denver to use one of their second or third rounders (2 in each round) to grab a top 5-10 rookie RB? There is always D. Booker, but I don't see him as more than a 3rd down back.

As a Denver fan, and CJA owner, I'm very curious about what the community thinks, as it factors into my decision of either cutting him from my roster ($19 is not cheap) unless I see some RB3/flex value there, do you guys see that type of value IF we don't draft a RB, and Keenum keeps us in games keeping CJA more involved?

Food for thought, I know this is another non-sexy post by me, but feel it's worth a discussion.

Great question. It's almost like the NFL forgot he existed haha, or at the very least, we as the fantasy community forget about him! I think he'll stay in Denver and lead a committee this year.

right?! he's not that old, and can be seen either as an asset for the right team, or a cap casualty. Either way, I'm really surprised at the lack of fantasy blurbs on the game, and real life lack of talk amongst teams. I think the Broncos clearly see he has value, which is maybe why he hasn't been cut yet, but I don't quite know what they expect in terms of return on a trade, I count 9 draft picks for the Broncos, including 4 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, I don't know if a 3rd or 4th round pick is even wanted by Denver.

Draft is 3 weeks away I've just assumed they are waiting to see what happens at the draft before deciding CJA's fate. for instance if they took Barkley at #5 overall, I could see them cutting him. If they draft no RBs at all I'd see them keeping him.

As a Bronco fan, I don’t know if I would want that as much as Saquon is sexy. Really need a QB, defense, and o linemen.

That’s what I think that they are doing. Elway pretty much said, it was up in the air, as far as if CJA was staying or not. They just don’t want to cut him until they see how the draft pans out and that’s smart. I think they probably would’ve traded him but maybe didn’t get any serious enough offers so they are just waiting to see how the draft unfolds.

They are probably hoping to get a draft pick out of Miami (due to their prior interest). I believe last month the Broncos said they would not cut CJA at this time but would entertain offers for him.

I have long been against CJA, but I am not sure why they would cut him now. They don't need the cap space to make a run at an FA and from what I saw (by all means correct me if I am wrong) but he seemed like their best offensive player last year.

I would agree. He was definitely their best option at RB. Have to think improved qb play would help even more next year.

As a couple of people have mentioned, I think they're just waiting to see how the draft plays out. Which sucks for the player imo, as he could easily get cut right after the draft when the RB needy teams are probably a lot less desperate after they've filled their holes via FA and the Draft. Then he'll be tossed in with the Demarco Murray, AP, etc. FA crowd.

CJ has been good when he plays. Denver's OL hasn't been the best and QB play obviously not very good last few years. With that said they are likely waiting post draft to see what they have.
