The leaguemates (myself included) turned on him. Private messages along the line of "this guy is a real douchebag" were flying.
The strategy he was employing is very commonplace. Had an owner in one league that would do it every season usually early in the draft. You and your leaguemates were in the wrong here.
Had he not advertised what he was doing then I would agree, however he did and it is a dick move. The leaguemates are 100% correct. He got what he deserved.

I don't know guys. Just cuz the bylaws allow it doesnt mean you can keep doing it.

Example, in my salary cap league, we run two auctions per season. A bid must stand for 24 hours to win. Technically guys could swoop in and make a higher bids with 30 seconds to go. Occasionally this does happen, for one reason or another, whether its family, work, cap management, a horny spouse. Usually whoever does it even expresses his remorse for the very late bid. But if a guy did this regularly, as a tactic, it would get old very quick.

There's a certain etiquette that should underpin league participation. Giving people their time is part of it. Being a d*ck isnt. And some tactics fall into, imho, can fall into that category.

Lastly, GroupMe is a fantastic tool and it has taken the DLF Premium League to another level. All 17 of us are signed up, and probably 2/3rds post regularly including during much of the offseason. Most of my trade negotiations run through it. I wouldn't want to be in another league without it. Builds a camaraderie that is otherwise not really achievable.

So when a late bid is made, can't a rule be implemented where the clock resets to an hour remaining? (unless it is already higher than 1 hour, in which case it would remain unchanged obviously.)

 This whole thing is still very confusing, the hatred jeaton has towards this guy just makes no sense. He was livid before the guy even used the full time on his first pick.

Ok, well that's good that a last-second, stealing bid isn't possible. I guess I'm not understanding why it would be seen as a negative when they are placing a bid in the allotted amount of time. It offers that person no advantage in this case.

I used to partake in a baseball salary cap auction league like that with the 24h auction bid clocks that reset with each bid - and yeah there were days it would seem like with 1-2 min before the bid is won someone would jump in and make a bid - I definitely recall some owners getting pretty irked when it would happen 4-5 days in a row.

Owner A: Bid of $15
Owner B with 2-3min to go: Bid of $16
Owner A: Bid of 17
Owner B/C/D with 3-4min to go: Bid of $18
Owner A: Bid of 19
Owner B/C/D with 2-3min to go: Bid of $20
and so on
...

I think it got to the point that some owners were trying to track IP addresses to prove that other owners could have bid earlier than they chose to - and that was about the time I left (also because I was losing interest in baseball keeper leagues).

It’s not the whole taking 12 hours thing but the lack of communication thing. I’ve been in many startups where the owner’s have families, or jobs where they can’t get online, or different sleep schedules. I’m in hawaii which is 6 hours behind the east coast. So I let owners know that if I’m on the clock while I’m asleep, I wake up at 7am “my time” so the draft is frozen until 1pm their time.

But no big deal, everyone knows, so nobody cares.

Communication is a common courtesy and helps build league camradarie.

But I would just vote to shorten the clock to 8 hours after the 1st 4 rounds.
This. It’s not so much about the time, but about the lack of common courtesy and the fact that he did it on purpose. And it was not done on purpose because a few people reached out to him to see what gives (I.e. “harassed” as some of the thinner skinned dudes like to call it LMAO).
