What do you think of Ricky Seals-Jones, TE Arizona? Both short term and long term? What is he worth right now?

So far he's shown us 2 games back to back of major potential to a major drop off immediately afterwards. That is tough to say. But I do like the fact that it will be Bradford throwing to him which is an upgrade, and AZ doesn't exactly have the most of elite WRs other than the aging Fitz. I'm holding for now but if someone offered me a 3rd, I'd probably take it.

As always with players like this, imho, it is very league dependant. I only have 1 share of him, and it is a 12 team league 25 man roster with a slight TE premium (1.25 to 1.00 ppr) and I cannot use him and a mid 3rd to get a late 2nd or early 3rd.

Nor do I recall many, if any, trades involving him over the past few months in any of my leagues (10+).

However if Bradford can stay healthy, he has shown a proclivity to throw to his TE - Rudolph in 2016, 75 receptions for Ertz in 2015. Heck even Lance Kendricks in 2012 saw 500 yards so he could be a sneaky buy for teams looking for TE depth. But if you're trying to sell my guess is at the moment its not likely anyone is getting much for him.

DLF Trade finder tool backs me up - almost nothing in the way of RSJ trades recently.

I'm going to bump this back to the top for anyone looking for deep sleepers at TE or for those of us in TE premium leagues where a guy like RSJ is a great bench stash while he hones his game.

I picked up RSJ for just that... a stash. Since our TE scoring is what I like to call call "super-premium" (2 PPR and 0.15 points per receiving yard), I don't mind holding onto 6 TEs on a 35-player roster. Although I don't want to hold onto a TE with zero chance of breaking out.

So I got looking into how TEs that play in Mike McCoy offenses have done in the past, and it's quite the mixed bag.

In his years as Denver's OC (2009-2012, 2017): Tony Scheffler had a decent year in 2009, but then no other TE stood out as anything more than a minor option in the offense. On the other hand, none of the various TEs on those Denver teams seemed to be guys with immense receiving skill for the position. Julius Thomas was there, but only as a rookie and second year player - he had his breakout year in his third year in the league in 2013, after McCoy had moved onto San Diego. We all know the adage about TEs taking a while to develop.

Then there are McCoy's years as head coach in San Diego, where he had one of the greatest TEs ever to play the game. Did he keep scheming to Antonio Gates like the Chargers had been doing because Gates was that talented, or was he finally able to run an offense where the TE position could thrive because he finally had a talented receiving TE? Was it more of Whiz's influence on the offense? Plus the fact that the Chargers drafted Hunter Henry 35th overall while McCoy was the head coach, and Henry was even involved in the offense some as a rookie.

So I don't know if I'm looking for answers, or if anyone even has them. It just got me thinking... with RSJ's history as a 4-or-5-star recruit and having played WR in college, does that give McCoy the kind of receiving prowess that he needs to make the TE position a large part of his offense in Arizona? Does the lack of proven WRs on the roster force his hand to scheme to the TEs more? Or will his time in Arizona be like his time in Denver?

My thoughts on RSJ might be more cloudy now than they were before I dove into the numbers... Anyone else have thoughts?

I have him stashed in my Superflex 2TE league.
To me - he's an upside stash/flier; but nothing more than that at this point.

He seems to be in line for a larger role in 2018 - but then again, the draft has not happened yet either. With Sam Bradford commonly being referred to as the "checkdown king" - if the Cards do not add someone else this could be a perfect storm type of thing for Ricky.

Bottom line is that he was a WR turned TE for the NFL level and he just finished his first year. TEs notoriously take a long time to develop and since he just switched to the position, we could be in for a waiting game but the potential is there; if you are patient.

I don't have a real strong take on this guy but as far as I can tell, not a lot of long term success stories for undrafted tight ends in the league in the past 30 years or so. The entire list is basically just Antonio Gates who was obviously incredible. Marcus Pollard had a decent career as well. The rest of the list is made up of guys who had 1-2 good years where they were either fed a ton of volume (ie. Jack Doyle, Larry Donnell) or they got hot in the red zone (ie. Cameron Brate, Joseph Fauria).

Meh, sold him for a 2019 4th. He has some upside, but unless you're rebuilding or desperate at TE, I'd rather take a chance on a late-round rookie instead.

Yeah, by all means I would recommend selling for basically ANY pick.

I think the only real question for people is whether he's worth a roster spot versus a cut.

I sold off a player for a 2019 3rd and since it is 1for1 for all trades on players I asked for his worst player.
He chose ricky seals-jones.

Selling for any 3rd. Buying for a mid 4th only if I need a TE. I'm just not putting a lot of stock here with new QB, new system, DJ back... coupled with small sample size gives me too much change to have a good enough read to buy for much more.

45/550/5?

Like his potential in my TE premium but I'm currently trying to package him for hunter Henry.
