Chad Williams, diamond in the rough?

Postby Bot101 » Sun Mar 18, 2018 9:24 am

Ive seen some slowly growing hype around this guy.

- 3rd rnd pick
- Awhile back Fitz compared him to Anquan Boldin
- John Brown and Jaron Brown are both gone
- John Brown tweeted recently: "Chad ready to be a number 2 dude a beast he will be a number 1 pretty quick"
- Arians raved about Williams in practice last season. (Cant remember where I read that)
- Fitz is probably done after 2018
- Bradford is a very accurate QB (when healthy)

Hes obviously worth a stash. But is there a chance hes a startable in fantasy for 2018?

I think there is always a chance - we have seen WRs with Fitzgerald have fantasy value, be it Floyd or John Brown, so it certainly is feasible that Chad Williams has a shot - obviously a lot will have to do with

(a) how much passing the Cardinals do - right now it seems suggested they are going to lean heavily on DJ

(b) if any under the radar veteran WRs get added (like a Maclin?)

(c) if they draft a pro-ready WR

He was widely considered way over drafted by Arizona. He's worth a shot but personally I wouldn't expect much.

I stashed him a while ago, but I'll be flipping when the value seems right. That said, tried to do the same thing with McKinnon some years ago- didn't expect the new owner to keep a death grip on him.

How much do we know about Wilks offensive scheme vs. Bruce Arians? Is it going to be similar or fairly different?

If it is similar - I think it would be more likely.

This article from last summer is likely to look like cold water being poured on - but if you look at the measuring up section and see the list of WRs drafted in the 3-7 rounds when Arians was coach or OC its definitely nothing to take for granted ...

was actually thinking about this guy. I was very high on him last draft, missed out, and I just realized he is actually a $2 FA in my draft. Before you all say "jump" we don't have shallow rosters, but not deep either. 26 total, and moving to SF next year. I don't really doubt his talent, but doubt QB play this coming year and on.
Team 1

Superflex, 1.0 point PPR

QB: P. Mahomes $5, C. Newton $20, B. Mayfield $2, D. Brees
RB: D. Johnson $54, N. Chubb $4, T. Coleman $4, D. Henry $14, I. Crowell $3, J. Richard $9, J. Adams $3
WR: A. Robinson $41, T.Y. Hilton $24, J. Landry $25, C. Davis $4, C. Godwin $4, D. Hamilton $3, K. Cole, S. Shephard $10
TE: E. Engram $4, D. Njoku $2, K. Rudolph $3, V. McDonald $4
K/DEF: Irrelevant

2019: 2.04, 2.05, 2.06, 3.06, 4.06

Team 2

Start: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 RB/WR/TE - 25 man roster + 4 TAXI

I like williams although agree with whomever said he was over drafted . I drafted him in several leagues and still have him in a few although I did trade him a couple of times . He is a great late round flyer in startups this year as opportunity is king although he should not be better than a 5 or 6 on any roster just yet . I will hold in all leagues I still own him at least until camp shakes out.

Some beat writer projecting Williams to start across from Fitz now. Arians was pretty solid at picking out the undersized receivers (Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, John Brown) and he seemed to like this guy quite a bit. Granted, it seemed like each one was worse than the last and who knows what level of involvement he actually had with Brown as Brown broke out after he left. It's been interesting enough to me to pick him up in both my leagues. I don't hate Bradford for the short term and if Williams can take the number two receiver role, he's pretty much certain to be the number three target and likely the main target downfield.

Williams is 6 ft 1 and 205, I don't think that is really, "undersized"?
