Main reason why Matthews signed with Patriots perhaps.
Says he also had "offers from Arizona, Green Bay and Tennessee". Given the contract, isn't it about the league minimum? Why not go to GB instead with Rodgers throwing him the ball for several years instead of Brady?
Probably because the Patriots actually make it to Super Bowls and if he thinks he only has a few years left, the Patriots is probably the best place to finally get a ring.

Guess we shall see soon enough if the Edelman suspension gives Matthews a bump up the depth chart.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

It definitely creates daylight, and greatly boosts his chance of making the 53.

yah, but wouldn't it be the most Belichick'ian thing ever to cut J-Matt before the season starts, now that they need WR's more than ever!?

For the record, I'm a J-Matt fan and still believe he can come back to WR2 territory. Not likely this year, but maybe next if he stays healthy and syncs with mr Brady.

Nothing certain yet and not trying to rub this in (maybe a little), but as far as I can tell JMatt appears to be healthy and active in all offseason activities while Malcolm Mitchell still not guaranteed to be ready for training camp...we still all aboard the Malcolm Mitchell train and writing JMatt off completely?

In fairness though, I traded away JMatt on my only dynasty league roster because the price was right

What's his going rate right now? I'd like to get him off my roster if possible.

I swapped him and a 3rd for Gio and a 2nd. Not saying you can get that kinda deal anywhere though.

JMatt is pretty much a lock to make the roster at this point. His test will be when Edelman comes back from suspension. Mitchell is fighting Britt & Dorsett for a roster spot from the sounds of things and right now, I'm liking Britt for that spot.

Man, I'm torn. On one hand, I was thinking I trade him for another random shot in the dark in the remaining 3rd or 4th rounds of our rookie draft. Dart throwing is fun, right?

On the other, he's got a real shot to do something on the freaking Pats offense, especially early on with a 32-yr old Edelman busted for PEDs and coming off majory injury.

Still thinking the Pats got to be wondering if JMatt can be Edelman's long term successor. You heard it here 1st.

Makes some sense, but not sure what that will mean once Brady packs it in.

Beli. will find another QB, many believe it's a system where any QB can be serviceable.

Matthew's need to find a role to be apart of the future.

I believe he comes back.

He acquired a young WR in Jmat.

and drafted a young RB, I think hes getting ready to build a new offense.

They will bank out Gronk and extend him, he will play within that system.

That was a fun prediction:-)

Bill Belichick is 66 years old and the second oldest coach in the league after (surprisingly) Pete Carroll. He may only have two-three more years left himself.
