As a lifelong Colorado Buffaloes fan, I’m stoked for P-Rich getting a nice contract and what seems to be a reasonable opportunity to be the target leader in an NFL offense.

As an owner, I’m trying to temper my expectations. This is still Alex Smith we’re talking about, after all.

I see no chance of him taking the target lead from Crowder and then a healthy Reed.

With Alex Smith under center, I wouldn't count on Richardson amounting to much statistically. Yeah yeah, I know, he actually wasn't bad attacking vertically in '17. For now, I'll take the larger sample on Smith over the one outlier year. And he still only barely cracked 4k yards anyway.

I am not particularly big on Richardson but "Healthy Reed" is an oxymoron and Crowder is a slot receiver who is good for about 100 targets/year in an offense that has typically thrown the ball 550-600 times a year.

What did people expect here? He's going to start and will take a jump just on volume from his 81 targets last year. We've seen this role produce 900-1100 yards and 6 or 7 td if he's good. His floor is a decent flex option and bye week #3, I think it's a good move for all involved.

It's the old DeSean Jackson role he'll be filling. That role never got him more than 56 catches in a season. And it was between 4-6 TDs.

Jackson did a whole lot with not many targets. I'm not betting on Richardson being able to average 18-21 yards per reception the way DeSean had to, to reach 1k yards. Alex Smith being under center just underscores it.
