Keenum to DEN, what does it mean for the WR's?

Postby hjernazian » Mon Mar 12, 2018 11:56 pm

Wondering how you all think this affects the production of DT and Emanuel Sanders. I am not asking ADP or value, as I think those things are relatively unchanged, but what does it do for their stats? I would give both a slight bump, but nothing drastic. Have DT as a stable WR3 at this point, am i off?

I still can’t wrap my head around watching Keenum throw wounded ducks in 2016 and now he’s this hot commodity a year later.

he had a great defense so he didn't really play from behind. not much changes with Denver on the defensive end. But I agree - it really matters on what version of Keenum shows up to Colorado imo.

better than siemien, brockweiler or paxton so it helps the wr but not to any great extent. More or less keeps the WR where they were for now until we see any new information to the contrary.

It’s a definite upgrade for them. I’m hoping the 2017 Keemun is back and the Vikings look like idiots for letting the QB who took them to an NFC championship game walk so they could sign the most overpriced free agent of all time in Cousins

Maybe they'll snag Brees. I'm still hoping Denver gives Chad Kelly a shot.

The only unknown now is, will Denver still draft a QB @5? If they don't then Swag could have a legitimate shot if Keenum implodes.

I'd like to think that (even a bad) Keenum is an upgrade over Sieman, and that this suggests the Broncos want to give Lynch/Kelly competition and a real shot and being a starter (if not this year then 2019). But it could just as easily mean they are ready to toss both out and draft a QB in the 1st to groom behind Keenum for a year. At the very least it serves notice to both that they have to be ready from day one of OTAs or Keenum will take away any opportunity they have.

Either way I do not think it hurts their WR corps as Keenum will have Musgrave to help him get adjusted to the Broncos offense and he is a solid OC (imo).

Big Broncos fan here, and I have mixed feelings.

On one hand, I can't help but feel like we're missing out on a franchise QB this off-season with Cousins available and the 2nd most draft capital of any team this year. We're overpaying for Keenum - enough that we probably can't take a QB @ #5 and that we're committed to Keenum for at least 2018 and likely the start of 2019. But that he's not good enough to turn the team into a legit contender or stick around for 3+ years as a quality starter.

On the other hand, he should be markedly better than Simien / Lynch / Osweiler from the past two seasons and even Peyton's last season. It should be a decent boost to the entire offense, and specifically to DT / Sanders so long as Keenum doesn't fall flat on his face.

Here's hoping they use the leftover money from not signing Cousins to upgrading our OLine or interior D spots (MLB / DT).

And here's hoping that Elway is smart enough to NOT use the 5th pick (or trade up) to take Barkley. I'd love Nelson there, but I doubt Elway values that position high enough.

This was my thought as well. Probably a slight upgrade, but I wouldn't be overly excited if I was a DT or Sanders owner.

At least the air is thinner in Denver, so he'll have that going for him.

I think Keenum is an upgrade from anyone they had playing since Manning left. Their offense is a type where you just dont want a guy to make mistakes. I think Keenum is good enough for that so the WRs should produce 10-15% more than they did with Siemian.

As a Vikings fan I'm sorry to see Keenum go. He gave us an amazing season last year.

He's an upgrade for Denver. However, keep your expectations in check. Keenum never really had to play from behind much at all. The Vikings defense shut people down and the pressure was pretty low on Keenum to have to "win" games on his shoulders. Falling behind in the championship game showcased that he struggled at that. He certainly had an amazing come from behind win in the game before that against the Saints. But, he didn't have to do that much to win games for the Vikings during the season. He did look good to me though. And, he really throws the ball well on the run outside the pocket. So, if Denver wasn't going to get Brees or Cousins, which both were unlikely, this was the best Denver could do. I wouldn't be surprised if Denver still drafted a QB though.
